Wow! Jack pot, Sunny!!
Splendid.
I remember this False Kiva very well. I stayed there all night alone shivering with cold, wind, and fatigue.
Then the next morning on the way out, I got lost and almost died from dehydration and fatigue.
Managed to get out of the place, I don't know how I did.
Gorgeous place..
I think there is a merit for black and white as presented here by Sunny!!
Voted.
I keep coming back to your photo Sunny. I see something I missed with every view. You nailed the foreground in this composition! A textbook lesson in foreground technique! The expanse, scale, emotion is just mind boggling! That lone monument in the rear center just adds to the scale of the area! Again well done!
Dan
Jeff,
Thank you for the kind words.

Wow, this is astounding. There is so much to see in each layer. The framing of the canyon with the near walls is excellent. I love how there is just enough shadow in your foreground. I hope that you have printed this to a large size.
Daniel
Daniel,
I do plan on printing this one large .. 60x something on canvas...other thing i was thiking maybe something to cover 1 entire wall. Thank you for the kind words

Sunny, this is simply an awesome shot.
I'm curious if the horizon tilt is intentional, though?
Matt
Matt,
Thank you. The landscape naturally tilts at that location, plus to make the horizon straight, i would have to tilt everything else, the foreground, the middle tower etc.

Worth every penny - it looks like a prehistoric war council campsite! Great use of black and white.

Phil,
Glad you liked it. I'm not sure of the origins...there is a lot of speculation but nothing concrete on the purpose of the kiva.

Has this site been reopened, or was this taken before the closure due to vandalism?
Bill,
This was taken a few years ago when I did a long weekend trip out to Southern Utah area. The location was shut down in 2017 i think and it still is.
Thank you! The color version just wasn't singing to me. I saw a sepia rendition of this place many years ago and that photo just stuck with me...standing in front of a floor to almost the ceiling print...gave me the same feeling as standing there did.

Very nice, Sunny. I read somewhere that the park service has closed False Kieva because of vandalism.
Mr.G
Mr. G,
Thank you, yes, unfortunately, the place is still closed. You can still hike out there but you can't access the alcove...basically risk getting lost for nothing.
