p.1 #1 · The Grampians

A few from my recent short weekend away to The Grampians in Victoria, Australia. Weather was pretty rubbish the entire weekend with rain/overcast/low hanging clouds and as a result missed out on a few spots we wanted to check out. Did have a few lucky breaks though with the plan B locations so at least came away with a few shots:

Great set of photos. Would love to check the area out myself someday. I like #3 the best. The light is beautiful.

This is a lovely set. I also haven’t heard of this place. I think there’s a lot of hidden landscapes in Australia yet to be fully exploited by a camera. Might be the next Iceland. Tfs. Chris

A lot of strong composition skills and good colour work went into making these photographs. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! The Grampians is a huge national park about 3 hours out of Melbourne city with heaps to explore. I wouldn't have known about all these spots if it weren't for my Melbourne mates (I live in Brisbane, Queensland).

Did get very lucky with the shots despite not making to certain locations due to the weather. Take pic 3 for example: even about 10 minutes before I took the shot most of it was still covered in low hanging clouds before it suddenly opened up for a brief moment.

I love the contrast between #1 and #2 and the mood of #3.

I'm on my way to Australia arriving next Tuesday. Doing the Great Ocean Drive all the way to Adelaide and was considering a stop in the Grampians. Not sure I'll have the time but you put it into consideration again.

cheers

Make sure you take your time; you'll be driving around Great Otway National Park as well with plenty of hiking and waterfall opportunities!

Number three shows Lake Bellfield and Halls Gap in the valley .
I know this Nat. Park very well its my favorite place to visit if time allows.
Both of these photos are excellent probably the best I have ever seen.
The Mac Kenzie Falls need to be approached carefully several people
lost their life sadly.
Very well done Tony!

The Grampians really is an awesome place isn't it? Surprised (and sad) to hear about MacKenzie Falls how did it happen? I thought it was relatively safe?

Hi Tony, yes it seems a safe little rock pool but the falls have claimed many lives.
The most shocking and sad incident happened on Christmas Day 2004.
A family of five as far as we know visiting the Falls. The 12 year old daughter slipped on the rocks
and fell in close to Falls. Her dad jumped in had problems then two of her uncles also jumped in.
All four drowned, the girls older sister also jumped in got into difficulties , someone rescued her
she was taken to the nearest Hospital treated and released the next day.
Then in 2018 also at Christmas time a male person drowned, several people tried to help but where
unable reach him.
One visiting lady recorded the incident on camera, I do not wish to see this video.
It is so sad we go there in awe of nature just seeing the beautiful views.

Christ that's insane...very sad indeed.

I mean I've taken photos at some pretty sketchy spots myself but I always take the utmost precaution and be as careful as I can when I shoot because we DO take risks shooting from certain places especially when we often have to move and setup in the dark. I had to call an ambulance for someone that was with me few weeks ago when doing astro and we were off road in rural area and it was lucky we had reception and I knew the area well so I could direct the ambulance to exactly where we were. My mate that I did Grampians with almost lost his life earlier this year when he got hit by a rogue wave from behind and got knocked into the water and almost got dragged out I think he struggled for over 10 minutes before he pulled himself out of the water.

It's things like this that really makes you think about what's a shot worth then you see idiots that do the dumbest things just to get a selfie.
