I got this lens some month ago used and I tried it against some other options.
The 24mm Sigma for instance is probably a little sharper, though differences are very sutble and bookeh, although the Sigma offers a little more background blur, I prefered the transition and smoothness of the Nikon 24mm 1.8.
The Nikon 24mm 1.4 has even better bookeh I guess, but was much more expensive and sharpness is not it's greatest strength.
The Nikon 28mm 1.4 which Charles mentioned is indeed a fantastic option, I tried it out, very nice bookeh, great sharpness etc.
It was just too expensive for me and the way I would use it, so I went for the 24mm 1.8g, which I really satisfied with!
( I like it more than my 20mm 1.8g, regarding sharpness for landscapes ).

The reason I suggest the 28E is that you have f/1.4 and for weddings often you need to capture portraits and having f/1.4 for a wide angle is almost a must. I also have the 24/1.4 Art and this lens is superb too.
I’ve been using the 24mm 1.8 for years with my wedding photography. Great in a dark reception hall. It’s a must have in my bag. I can cover most of a day’s wedding with just the 24mm 1.8 and the 58mm 1.4.

Awesome combination. I also have the two lenses you mentioned besides a Sigma 105 Art. These are my prime Trinity.
So you find that 1.8G is good enough and there is no reason to upgrade to 1.4G?
For me, definitely no need for the 1.4. The 24mm 1.8 seems to have a touch of the Nikon, magic fairy dust. Definitely has a very nice character.

It’s a great lens, very sharp where it needs to be. Is a great size, and handles low light reception venues incredibly well. Love the ‘bokeh’ and out of focus areas. It looks like you stated above that you own the lens? Are you seeing the same things?

I agree that its bokeh is on the good side. No real complains here. However, my impression is that the bokeh on 1.4G is really good. It shares much of the same character as the 58 1.4G.
Can agree with most being written here already.
As I contributed here too, the 24m 1.8g is quite a good compromise - it does not have the best bookeh ever, and the 24mm 1.4 Nikon and even more the 28mm 1.4e do really shine here, and it might not be the sharpest as well, where the sigma 24mm Art as it`s advantages.
But it has quite good overall qualities, is also relatively cheap, and light.
This is why I eventually went for it, good hiking and do it all wide angle landscape- lens when I need it for trips and also a nice lens for street and city, when I want to go light there as well.
Pair it with just one normal or small tele like the 58mm 1.4 or the 85mm 1.8 g and this will make a really nice walk-around set!
24mm lenses are a real challenge for cameras to accurately autofocus in low light. I used a 24mm f/1.4 for one wedding and when I realized the limitations I sold it and use the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens instead.

In my experience, the AF limitations tend to be more on the body end than the lens. 24mm f/1.4G has done really well for me in garbage lighting situations at weddings on D500, D850, Z6.
Another thought for the OP, if compact size and weight aren't your ultimate goal, would be to consider the 24-35 f/2 Sigma zoom. Although a short zoom range, it is a useful one for tight spaces and many weddings. I owned it for a few years and it is one of the lenses that I miss having around sometimes.
If we're really just talking about the 24mm f/1.8G though, the 20/24/28 1.8G lenses are often discussed together as they all are pretty stellar compact, lightweight primes. The 20mm seems to get the most love (I've owned a few, remarkable little lens) and the 28 seems to be the most divisive. I think that some complained about field curvature or something, I don't recall the details. The 24mm f/1.8G is the only one of the 3 that I haven't owned, but I wouldn't hesitate to do so simply by reputation and how well it's related WA 1.8 primes perform. Buy a used copy, sell it for little or no loss if you don't like it.
Got one absolutely amazing deal on a mint 1.4G - $900 CAD, so I pulled the trigger. I am looking to sell my 1.8G now. I'll probably end up only paying couple hundred dollars.

The 1.4G is an amazing little lens, I think you’ll really enjoy it. Love mine on D850 or with FTZ
