No problem at all with AF-C with mine. I had the Batis before but this is on another level for portraits. Using with mostly A9 (but also sometimes A7rii).

In the Q&A for this lens on the B&H site, someone asked "What is the firmware number for this lens?" A staff member answered "the lenses we are selling have the latest firmware updates as of 6/1/20."

Mine is updated to v4 via dock and I reset the af punt to defaults after trying out different settings not really making a difference in af-c. Believe it affects af-s more. I shot s birthday with it and was pleased with the af-c accuracy actually with ibis on with around 1/110 sec shutter speed. The lens can struggle if its low light unlike the fe 85 1.8 which does better but i enjoy the samyang rendering more. I think once I go above 1/300 or 400 sec shutter or so i would turn off ibis as it can cause blur in photos.

Do we know for sure IBIS can cause blur? I found using back button focus did seem to help with this lens for some reason.
Sometimes I worry that it has missed focus when shooting further away, but I'm not sure - I think the lens is just less sharp the further the subject is from the lens. Portrait shots from waist up look really sharp in the eye but full body shots not so much. I definitely find myself pleasantly surprised every time I use this lens. Pixel peeping I'm usually disappointed but when I see the result on a small screen I just love the look.

I haven't shot the Sam 85mm in awhile mainly due to this "bug" going around!
This was from one of my last shoots earlier in the year. I have absolutely no issues with this lens. Everyone brags about how much smaller Sigma's 85mm 1.4 DG lens is, but the Samyang 85mm is even lighter!

I noticed you have a cover/sock on your lens. Would you be willing to share where you obtained it? I cannot find a suitable solution for my Samy 85 1.4.

I love the Samyang 85. Owned both this and the GM and would pick the Samyang anytime. Not really shooting people lately but here is one I do not think I posted from earlier this year.

They're extra bits and pieces from Lenscoat neoprene I had on other lenses. Sometimes they provide extra pieces and I just end up repurposing the material.

from last weekend's camping/hike.
I bought again the Canon Eos R and brought both cameras. During the hike down the mountain I had the Canon with the Tamron 17-35 and the Sony with the Samyang 85. I still LOVE the Samyang and together with IBIS it's the reason I haven't sold the Sony (now finally I have a new copy of the Samyang with the new matte look as the RF version), but the colors out from the Canon are incredibly better and easier to edit, no matter in Lightroom, CO, and with any profile.

Fred shared a preset for lightroom to neutralize the color cast from the lens and make it similar to his zeiss lenses. I found that in lightroom it's like 150k warmer than my Canon 70-200 and I think I also needed to add like +4 towards magenta.
Apart from that, I don't know why the auto white balance with this lens is specially bad with my Sony a7iii. Shooting side by side with the eos R and both cameras in awb, with the tamron 17-35 the wb is somehow similar, but when using the samyang the pictures are too warm and green (more than what you would correct starting from the same numerical settings with other lens).
Shouldn't auto white balance be neutralizing the color casts of the lenses? Why is it accentuating it even more?
Other issue is why still lightroom doesn't have a profile for this lens?
Capture one can use the manufacturer profile (embebbed in the raw) to correct, and also dxo photolab doesn't have profile (but automatically used the Sony GM profile).

Ah ok thanks. I've just been shooting a frame with a grey card and using that for white balance.

Hi Kevin - do you mind elaborating on this please? I am looking for an 85 at the moment and precisely debating the Batis vs the Samyang...

Hi Matt. I think the best I can do is direct you to watch the Dustin Abbott videos comparing the Samyang 85 with Sony's 1.4, Batis etc. He has a number of videos on this lens (inc, a 4 part 6 lens shootout on 85s for Sony inc. the Batis) and I've always found him to be excellent in covering all the angles whilst remaining impartial. Christopher Frost may have a video too, not certain.
The shootout : Sony FE 85mm F1.8, Sony 85mm F1.4 GM, Samyang AF 85mm F1.4, Zeiss Batis 85mm F1.8, Sigma 85mm F1.4 ART, and the Viltrox AF 85mm F1.8
Here's Part 1 of the shootout :
Here's part 1 of his dedicated review on the Samyang 85/1.4

Thank you, I watched these and other reviews and agree it looks pretty good. It seems it is not available in Canada though so will probably have to order from B&H/Adorama which scares me given the QC issues people reported.
