p.1 #1 · Burrowing owl devouring JB right in my face
My intention was mostly to capture inflight shots, which I did but I got the opportunity to capture this burrowing owl that just captured a green June bug and it landed some 15-16 feet or from my position. These are pretty much frame filling images and the DOF is shallow but what can I say and what's the chance of this happening again? The landing spot is actually a man made structure and I moved further back after this, giving the owl another opportunity to land again there and it did.
Your comment and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Well done Joshua! That 600 gives beautiful rendering!
BOB
Thank you very much, Bob! It does, doesn't it? The location there is better than where the crowd gathered on the other side.

Nothing can beat a 600 prime - well, maybe an 800 prime! Nice set, Joshua!
Thank you very much, Bobby! I am not sure about an 800mm lens... a tad too unwieldy for my taste, too. I believe a 600mm strikes a nice balance for bird photography.

Great stuff, Joshua! You were right about that being a really good spot to shoot from.
Thank you very much, Fred!

Wow! The glee with which that owl is dismembering that June Bug is incredible. Great captures!
Thank you very much, Shirley! I had a set showing an owl was playing with its “food” for almost a minute, dismembering the legs and wings, etc. before devouring the bug.

What is most amazing to me is that with that shallow DOF the insect is sharp in most of the images. Great looking set Joshua

Thank you very much, Morris! I had several images that were not quite focused as these.

I don't agree Bobby, an 800mm is f/5.6 while a 600 is f/4... So you got one full stop of light plus the 800 is slightly less sharp...just my two cents.

I am with you, Juan! I would rather stick with the 600mm. Plus, the brand I am using right now doesn't have an 800mm lens in the line up . But both TCs, even the 2X TC works really well on the 600mm.

Josh, this is a great series! I would really like to see this owls some time soon!
Thank you very much, Juan! The best is yet to come . Summertime is their season. A few short weeks left and that's it. So, plan ahead, I would say.

Great capture. Guessing based on the comment, it is a well known location to shoot owls - (perhaps lots of bird watchers and photogs)
Thank you very much! Yes, I have been going to that site in the last 4 years or so. Every weekend, there are 20 or so photographers in average.
