I just realized that EFCS has ruined some of my favorite shots of my kids playing in a stream, makes the smooth bokeh of this lens quite nervous by cutting the bokeh balls...
We are still on firmware v4. My hit rate is good enough with moving targets that I am still getting maybe a 70% hit rate. For static subjects closer to 90%. So a little frustrating but If I need to get more accuracy I close the aperture a bit. Much of it seems to have to do with the AF system with the low margin for error that comes with f/1.4.
The only other annoyances so far have been some strange glow in intense sunlight (not ideal anyway), and AF at close distance where it will confirm eye focus but it really isn’t in focus.
None of these have swayed me from using the lens extensively. It is my current favorite.
Yeah sorry about that, is is only at f/2 in that pic so not as smooth as possible but I just liked it enough to post. Like I said, with moving targets I sometimes stop it down just a bit to get a higher hit rate. The flower/tree branch is at f/1.4 for reference.
Here is one at f/1.6. Lighting wasn't great so ISO is a bit higher, and I edited on mobile as a jpeg. So take the total image quality with a grain of salt, but still it hit on focus just fine.
Also not a pro shot, but was the first time I said 'wow' when considering how the lens handled background separation and bokeh. Trees and power lines behind the subject. Moving target. AF worked just fine, though it was mid day.
