I enjoy mixing my hobbies of kayaking and photography. Sometimes it's a total bust and other times you can get really nice results. Just lately I've had some luck with Least Bitterns which tend to be very secretive.
Mike, these are very nice. I tried my hand at a Hydro-bike thinking that I could lie low on it and it would be stable. Could not get low on it and had to sit on the bike a bit too high for my liking. Was thinking about the Kayak next time I am out. Any tips on protective gear for the camera will be helpful. Thanks a lot.
These are awesome! I really like the light and framing and low level shot of #3. Wow you sure saw the good ones and Bittern chicks....................now that would make my day/month/year!

My typical gear protection goes like this:
90% of the time I am shooting with my 7D ii and 100-400 ii. It fits nicely in a Think Tank Holster and this gives good protection. Once actively shooting and there is a pause, I lay the camera and lens on top of the flattened Holster and keep a piece of waterproof material over it to protect from drips and spray. If the conditions are gnarly the Holster goes inside a roll top dry bag.

And insurance!
Mike,
Thanks a lot. That's my go to combination as well. Will check out the Think Tank Holster and see what it does.
Mike, Wonderful close-ups. Especially liked the Least bittern shots. Also, it's not often that folks capture those nice green colors in the Green Heron feathers. It's interesting that these birds are often described as small and dark.
