p.1 #1 · Sony A9 not shooting 10 FPS in Mechanical Shutter

Not sure what is wrong....but it does not seem to be shooting at 10 FPS. Seems to be ok in electronic shutter.....any ideas?

I think A9 only does 5FPS as per spec with mechanical shutter. All I know is the times I've tried it it sure sounds slow.

This review goes over a lot of specifics and differences: https://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/sony-a9/sony-a9A6.HTM

Another "gotcha" is if you shoot uncompressed RAW it only shoots 12FPS. If you shoot in Continuous it always drops to 12-bit.

The limit is 5fps on mechanical shutter. Check the "CONTINUOUS DRIVE SPEED" section in following link.

Don’t shoot like this but it also is dependent on lens itself

Hmmm... I didn't know that my A9 also had a mechanical shutter

I was using my Sony 200-600 and was trying different setting and noticed how slow it was.
I thought it would go 10FPS with my Canon adapted lens as well.

Never shoot using MS with this body. Otherwise this is not the camera for you.

Has there ever been an explanation on why the Mechanical Shutter is so slow on the A9?
(or even discussion on theories)

Recycled R2 shutter to save costs.

Or bulb or noise reduction will cause 12 bit

About RAW images
RAW images recorded with this camera have a resolution of 14 bits per pixel. However, resolution is limited to 12 bits in the following shooting modes:
[Long Exposure NR]
[BULB]
[Cont. Shooting] when [RAW File Type] is set to [Compressed]

which canon lens? they don't all work the same.

i would expect the a9 to do around 10fps or even better, with the electronic shutter and the right adapter situation, but it's lens-dependent.

I don't see a need for mechanical shutter _at all_ with the A9, unless I want to use flash.
