Oh that was just the CPL I got, which is the only filter I use anyway.
It is very well constructed and I am sure it is great (did not have the time to put it through its paces) but it does increase the bulk of what I have to carry substantially. Oh well....
Thanks for the Kase ND tip, will take a look as well.
I favor them because they work with any lens. Like the mentioned rear-mounts, though, you have to remove the lens to change them. I carry a transparent rain hood (with hand holes) in extreme environments for doing so.

At my request Fred kindly tested his CV21/3.5 against the Sigma zoom here and showed a substantial difference with pretty poor corner performance for the Voigltander even stopped down to F7.1 on an A7R2. So I was expecting that on an A7R4 I would almost certainly not be able to use it to replace my Loxia 21, which I use to complement the Sigma zoom when shooting against the sun.
However, I received a copy of the CV21 today and did a quick comparison between it and the Loxia in the extreme corner on my A74R and the difference is not as large as I was expecting. So now I'm not sure which to keep for the occasional sunstar shot. At 50% on my high res screen they both look very good. Here are the 100% extreme corner crops from 61MP (minimal sharpening) with both lenses at the hardstop where they are optimal for infinity focus in the corners.
The Loxia 21 looks slightly better in the corner, with nearly 1/3 stop extra exposure. So a net gain in two categories: corner sharpness and lower vignetting.
From what I've seen posted, the CV 21/1.4 is probably overall slightly better than the Loxia 21/2.8, but at a cost of weight, bulk and cash on the used market.

Has anyone tried these filters that go inside the Sony Camera body rather than into just the filter holder on the back of the Sigma 14-24? Seems like the in the body Filter would essentially give you a filter for every lens in your kit rather than just for the Sigma. Also, the way that you put it in an remove it with the little tool seems much easier. Has anyone on here used these before? I think this is the route I might take.

I have Kase clip-in ND filters. They're fine once you get used to it, my sensor has never been the cleanest but I change the filters even by the ocean and/or in the dark now without worrying too much (trying to shield the body with my body/jacket). You have to be careful not to touch the filters but I've never had problems with touching the sensor and the first time is quite daunting but it gets easier after you've done it a few times.
Fred tested the Kase filters with the Sigma 14-24 afair, and they seem to have the least amount of IQ impediment -- other filters like the STC _may_ be thicker and impact the IQ, you'll have to look into that.
In terms of general use -- these work well on some lenses, but on some lenses they don't. Maybe it's just the Sony 200-600, but that lens seems to be quite sensitive to glass before or after its optics and it barely focuses with a clip-in ND and IQ on my copy is bad with the filter on. It would also not focus to infinity through car windows FYI, so it's not just these filters with that lens imo. I think it worked better on the Sigma 100-400 as far as I remember, definitely good on the Tamron 28-200. I mainly use it on the Sigma 14-24 though and it works well there.
