sorry to hear about your Kase filter breaking 2X. Mine is working beautifully. I also am not experiencing the "field curvature" you are posting with the Kase.

Where is the filter breaking? At the nose? and upon removal? I just checked my box and it looks identical to the one you posted. I did purchase mine from eBay months ago as they were the only ones selling at that time so in all likeliness nobody had a counterfeit.....yet??

Got my new Kase ND from B&H and it looks like the one from Ebay...So, I don't think the one sold by Ebay was fake like Kase let me to believe.

Just tested at infinity and there is a very slight FC when using the filter at 14mm but it's really minimal and the lens is still sharp to the very edges. This filter goes into the slot without any effort so I'm hoping it won't break like the others I've tried.

Hope that's the Kase (pun intended) as I have the 3 stop on order from B&H.

Fred,

So does this mean that the Kase filters vary in thickness (since both the field curvature is less and it fits in more easily).

I certainly hope your new filter works out. This could be a situation where someone within Kase is "stealing" the OEM packaging and counterfeiting the filter itself. This could certainly explain why the actual ebay filter looks different than BH authentic one. I know its a stretch but plausible.

FYI, I have noticed very slight FC at 100% crop at extreme right of only some test images @14mm and infinity focus toward the top right corner but havent tested it further as it is so minimal and only on some images. Just an FYI.

No, same field curvature effect from all the Kase NDs I have tried.
It can only be visible at the wide range and goes away when stopping down. I would say the FC effect is minimal even wide open. (Although still noticeably under close inspection)

Update from Aurora and their magnetic rear ND filters (and light pollution reduction)

"Our China office finally receives the magnetic link prototype filters and they works very well. They are sending the prototypes to us and we expect to receive them in the next two weeks as shipping packages from China to US has been very slow due to the reduced international flights.

Once we have the prototype filters in US we will send you a set of ND64 for the Sigma 14-24/2.8 E. We also have prototype filters for the Canon 11-24/4, and Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 / 14mm f1.8 EF. If you are interested in testing those kits please let me know. The development for the Sony 12-24/4 is ongoing and thank you for the suggestion."

The good news for FE 12-24/4 G users is that they are developing a rear ND solution for this lens as well.

Stunning lens. These were taken on a family hike. Uploaded from my iPad so the resolution may not be ideal. Overall this lens is getting a ton of use and will be my primary travel lens.

Finally got through most of this thread. Still not sure it fits me with the lack of 35mm and the filter hassle, but just as you thought you were out and safe, this happens:

Yes, it is sharp and all, but this has been a major sales pitch for me to be honest.

Some from around Korea. Seoul is of course a focal point, but I think the coastal areas and countryside have a lot more to offer for photography

So on another post on the forum related to this lens, Zayne12 asked about whether Kase filters added any additional aberrations when pointed into the sun. I hadn't experimented with it myself, so I went out to a location I had previously shot some pictures of without the Kase filters and shot them again with the Kase filters. There does appear to be additional aberrations when pointed into the sun. However, not having direct comparison shots from the same spot on the same day, I had to wait for another sunny sunset in Denver before I could take back to back images with and without one of the Kase filters.

The first image is tonight's sunset without any filter. The second is with an ND64 Kase filter. I apologize for the slight change from 14mm to 15.2mm. I inadvertently moved the zoom ring after inserting the rear filter.

Anyways, just something to be aware of if you're planning to use this lens and rear Kase filters while pointed into the sun.

Here are closer crops of the above images. First without Kase ND64 rear filter. Second with.

Some other shots that show this same behavior. First image without a Kase ND8 rear filter. Second with (different day). I don't have a Nisi S5 system to compare, but I don't recall seeing anything similar to this when using 100mm ND plates in the Nisi V6 with other lenses. I'd be curious if anyone has seen the same thing using plastic sheet filters. It may just be that rear filters aren't the right tool if we're taking sunset images with this lens.

So my copy came on Saturday, and from about 18mm onwards the lower right corner lags in performance. I know perfection is not a reasonable expectation. But what are reasonable expectations? And does this meet them? I know this is subjective for each person, but I'm conflicted. All shot on the a7R III @ 24mm

I'd say the lower right extreme corner is about 2 stops behind the other corners. At 18mm it doesn't quite seem to sharpen up as much as at 24mm.

Assuming the question was to me. Yes, these shots were shot in RAW and processed similarly.

It's not perfect, but I'd probably view that as on the edge of acceptable. The question really becomes how often you need extreme corner detail at wide apertures. For me that answer is rarely. If you think it will bother you, then I'd exchange. A good copy of this lens should be quite sharp in all the corners from wide open. Getting one absolutely perfect is rare in any lens, but you could likely get one better than this.
