Is there really no product information around shaped ND filters fitting into ther rear filter holder?
Cutting the gel foils and handling the resulting shaped, tiny and flexible, filters outdoor seems not to be a practical way.
Searching on the Sigma pages and via google I do not find any information around appropriate filters. Considering the irregular shape the lens maker or someone else should provide durable NDs to the 14-24 DN lens users.
Maybe a good idea for some new kickstarter project ...
I'm interested in this lens but hate the size of the 150mm front filter systems (I have the NISI 150mm filter for my sigma 1.8/14) and therefore will wait until some high quality pre-cut rear filters are available for the 14-24.

I ordered the NiSi ND64 +CPL but it is a Special Order item and will take several weeks before shipping. I think I can avoid the need for carrying the huge 150mm square filters. If I need to use more than 6 stops of ND I will use my Batis 18mm and Nisi 100mm V6 filter holder with my Lee IRND 3,6,10,15 stop 100mm filters.
Maybe some day they will make a set of nice rear ND filters for this Sigma 14-24.

From a practical standpoint, how is easy is it to use the rear filters? Do you have to keep them immaculately clean? Do you get a lot more dirt & contaminants in your camera. Are fingerprints on the gel an issue?
I'm also a bit worried about always having to dismount the lens to change the filter.
My typical use case would be for seascapes with ND's to control exposure time for wave blur (typically would use 3 or 6 stop). I'm ok without the polarizer. Sometimes I might be in the water when shooting.

From the practical standpoint pre-shaped and framed filter elements are needed. In principle something like that, fitting into the Sigma rear filter holder.

I posted some corner samples from the best centered copy I've found so far in another thread, but it probably should have gone here. Interestingly, this best centered copy has slight but consistent outward field curvature across the whole zoom range. I can detect it even at F6.3, although it's also possible to find a focal setting that masks the FC, so it is of no practical concern. The additional very nice aspect of this particular copy is that when focused at about "12m" @ F6.3 it has excellent sharp infinity focus across the whole frame throughout the whole zoom range. Nice and easy to remember...

Yesterday I went to Rocky Mountain National Park to photograph the elk rut. There weren't too many elk, but I came across a pretty aspen grove showing autumn colors. Below are a few shots. All were taken hand-held. If you'd like to see them in higher resolution, check out the originals on Flickr.

Just got my copy today and it's an impressive zoom for sure!
I've tested it at 14mm and 24mm and both focal lengths are well centered on the A7R4.
I will post some crops soon.
envious... although it does not affect the kind of photography I do, I keep pixel peeping at my samples. At 24mm the right side is so much worse than the left for me....

That pattern (template) came with the lens. On Wednesday, I'm getting a Lee 4-stop ND gel sheet and will try this out.
Hopefully it won't induce field curvature.

I think this lens mainly makes sense if you want to improve IQ below 21mm, where it really stands apart and outperforms everything else with the possible exception of the Sigma 14/1.8. It competes very well with other options between 21 and 24mm as well, and can replace even Loxias and CVs in that range in terms of sharpness/contrast. I only shoot landscape (and astro), so for me the combination of this zoom with the compact Loxia 21 (for shooting against the sun) is pretty much perfect.

Yea you could do some nice mix and match setups. I still love my manual focus setup but I wonder sometimes if that's a romance kind of decision. If that makes sense

Or wait until the honeymoon period is over, quite a few will show up on the B&S , if you know what I mean.
This lens is very good. No honeymoon period for me; it's a keeper. It outperforms, or very nearly on par with, my best primes. My only other lenses that performed better were the Canon 16-35/4 at 21mm (barely), the Loxia 21 (in the extreme corners, barely), and the 24GM (across the frame, barely, at its worst FL). It was only noticeable that other lenses beat it at 100%.

I am not questioning the performance of the lens. Some folks buy the lens, not realizing the size and its weight. They get caught in the craze, so to speak. After a while they started rethinking about their lens line up and the weight starts to bug them, or some unexpected filter aspects, or what not. Plus, it is possible that another company or even Sony itself will come out with another lens or other lenses that will be competing with this lens. I have seen quite a few samples where some lenses got a favorable review by the FM crowd, people flock and buy those lenses and then they realize that those lenses do not fit their style, etc. A few Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses come to mind here. Again, nothing against the lens and that “behavior”; it is good for the economy.

I find the 14-24/2.8 E-mount very small and light for what it is. Optically, it's even better than the 12-24/4 G and not much bigger with a stop faster.

Seriously don't try it or you will get hooked, especially on the A7R4. Aside from a few primes near the long end, nothing comes even close to it. (Lox 21, CV 21/1.4 and FE 24/1.4)
