Before I was crushed with overwhelming sadness brought on by having to return the 600GM to LensRentals.com... I snapped a few more shots before heading out to UPS for the drop-off.

So will you be getting your own copy in time?
Head on over to www.frankhatcher.com .... in the blog I have shots of the reno taking place. I will not be buying a 600GM in the near future. Now... if I walk away from this with a few nickels left in the savings... I'll place an order. It's an amazing lens!

A very nice write-up and images.
I have decided to go for the 600mm GM myself, but will have to exercise some final patience, I will be getting it end of may next year, it takes a while to make financial room for such a purchase.
I have been using the A1+200-600 combo, and it shows all the great stuff Sony has to offer, but the 200-600 has not been able to do what the A1 has done: take away any desire to look further. It is a sharp lens and in the right conditions delivers nice images, but in flatter duller light it loses its appeal for me, and it does leave me with a feeling of loss of selling lenses like the Nikon 500PF, Canon 400DOII and Sigma 500/4.
The 600GM will outdo all of these and make me forget them, but it is a very expensive lens, though luckily well below its Nikon counterpart.

Thanks, Chris. I enjoy the 200-600+A1 combo, it's nailed some shots for me that I'd proudly print and hang on my wall. I walked away from shooting Bosque with the 600GM wishing I had the lens with me on previous trips... it just resolves so well... super sharp... and amazing AF speeds with the A1. It's great to hear you are going to own one in the not to distant future. I'm sure you will love it! Do share you thoughts about the lens when you shoot with it, I have a feeling you are going to be very happy with the purchase.

You don't need to spend $13,000 on a 600 GM
You just need a girlfriend who owns one
Haha, alas, my spouse could rather easily afford one, but she prefers to use her binoculars and let me do the hard work
Since these are luxury purchases, I won't allow her to fund part of it, although she does enjoy my passion for birding/wildlife.
