Z9 + 600 GM and 1.4x TC on the Megadap ETZ21.
Hi Alphonsus,
How would rate the AF performance of that lens on the Z9 using that adapter relative to that on the A1? I used to use both Canon 400mm f/2.8 and 600mm f/4 lenses using Metabones/Sigma MC-11 on Sony A9 and A9II. I am not sure whether you tried that or a similar setup before. It worked adequately for larger birds with predictable flight pattern. But it didn’t work that well trying to capture small birds in flight, especially when they flew all over the place without any distinctive pattern.
A cormorant is not small and it flies pretty much in one direction. But still it is quite impressive that the setup would track that pretty well. Post some more, please.

I would rate the performance of the Canon 400 and 600 III on the Metabones + A9 II as very, very poor compared to the Sony 600 GM on the Z9.
The 600 GM on the A1 is certainly better than adapted to the Z9, but I still have chosen to sell my A1 as I’m not a fan of Sony ergonomics. I’ve gone ahead and brought the 200-600 and the Z9 to Alaska as my only telephoto option, so I guess I’ll find about it more this week!

Oh that background is exquisite. Also the subjects, ha .
Thank you. I have to give Douglas credit for that spot. Typically I shut down photographing birds for the summer to focus on other interests. But this summer I am taking a few local day trips and that place is good and close to home

Great shot...noticed that they cultivate algae on their fur like Sloths
Thank you very much! I noticed the greenish fur in lower back of that marmoset but I didn’t realize what that would be. Good observation!

I went through 2 cataract surgeries in the last 7 weeks or so. My vision has improved and I started going out taking pictures again, but mostly portraits though. I haven’t used the GM 600mm lens in the last 8 weeks or so, when I took this as one of the frames in a sequence. I still have plenty of images from Ecuador but I would rather post something more local and more recent…
It’s good to see you posting your wildlife images again Joshua. I followed a Northern Harrier pair in June and captured a few images. I asked them to do the food handoff in better light, but they didn’t want to listen …
