Josh - great capture. Is this the location that Mr Phan often posts from?
Thank you very much, Alex! There are 3 falcon sites in Southern California that I know of. I know and frequent 2 of them that are more within a striking distance from where I live. That is about 1+ to 2 hours one way, depending on traffic. The other one is in La Jolla near San Diego 2+ to 3 hours away from my location. I know Alex, the other Alex, goes to all 3 locations. So, yes, it is one of them. I bump into him here and at the other location on a regular basis.

The Peregrine nest site at Torrey Pines State Park beach in Del Mar is closer to you than the La Jolla site. Lots of LA and Orange County photographers go there. There is another Peregrine nest site, between the Torrey Pines and La Jolla sites, at Black's Beach. I don't go there since it is a bathing suits optional beach and I'm not sure how welcome a fully clothed photographer with a 600mm lens may be.

Yeah you might get some looks that aren't exactly friendly
Female merlin after a failed ambush on a group of recently arrived wheatears. I was photographing the wheatears at the time and heard flapping then she was there in my vf.
