Thank you. I've mostly just done Lightroom auto adjust and I think I'm using a cobalt ektachrome(flat) profile in the ones I shared here and then I adjust black level slightly. I will adjust the exposure curve too slightly depending on the auto edit. I do feel like I prefer my a9 files over my a7cr files generally with the same profile for rendering.

These images are amazing and half of what got me to pick up the lens on a good deal (probably because the new one is coming out with name change).
The images I take, I would describe as "cartoon-like" with how smooth everything is... almost too much, and I see some of it in your shots (and definitely a lot in others - which can be also pretty cool like at the top of the page), but you sort of balance that out.
I'm not sure if it's the contrast, sharpening or colour adjustment but something works fantastically with this lens with what you've done.
I was hoping to prod you for some post-processing advice, but I know that's asking for a lot. ...Show more →
Thank you for the detailed response, cxpics. I was looking at cobalt earlier but hesitated to try it as not sure if I was going to switch to the A7CR from the CII. But I've noted down what you mentioned... and I am bothered by the colours from the A7cii, was hoping the A7CR would be better but I don't know. There's a new thread on that topic just now .
Does anyone have this weird issue with this lens where sometimes you take a photo and the screen just goes black and takes like 10 seconds to come back and it missed the shot.
It happens only with this lens on my a7cii.
I saw a thread on reddit that was similar but mine sort of happens a bit randomly, not every 5 shots like his, but the exact same thing happens:
One guy mentioned he also used the Sigma 45mm f2.8, another with a different Sigma lens. One said a firmware update on the lens fixed it but mine is already up-to-date [EDIT: NOPE, it wasn't updated].
A video one guy made that demonstrates what happens when it messes up:
It doesn't happen with other lenses and my sd card is v90 direct from sandisk.
Or any similar experience with other lenses, or ideas about the issue? I got it from Amazon and it's within the year but it was such a good price...
---- wait, I'm a noob only on version 2, thought I checked that already previously, says version 6 is the latest, will give it a shot.
If this lens was f2 and focussed a little better in continuous mode because of it, and nothing else changed except a little bit of an increase in size, it would be my favourite compact af for personal family pics. Right now I feel like I have to get closer than I want to be to get the background blur I want for a lot of situations.
But when the scene is right, this is my favourite. Very clean image, front and back.

I loved everything about this lens but it was so frustrating to focus in low light. Drove me nuts.
Which Sony camera were you using it on? It may do better on the more recent versions of Sony's autofocus systems. I originally had occasional frustrations with focusing with the lens, but ever since my use of the A9 and later models, I have found it fine for low light. I think I have a low-light picture somewhere up in this thread of my late beloved Golden in dim light that was taken with the Sigma 45 i and I think with an A9 without difficulty.
EDIT: Here's a link to that low-light photo of my Golden, back on page 50 of this thread:
Looking at some of the portraits I took with this of family, they reminded me of the photos philip_pj has been posting recently using the Thypoch Simeras, maybe with a little more contrast and vibrance.
Thypoch has a bit of an older look to it that I like, but this isn't far off. Most likely the smooth blur.
They stand out among my photos for a unique look (even in-doors) and I remember having to get a little too close to comfort to get the look with this usually.
Have been looking at stuff here for a while, but never successfully managed to register here ;-) Happens, but yesterday I received a confirmation email and registered straight away.
Now regarding how to post here: I have no idea and simply clicked "reply" (to the thread or the last post??). Fact is that I really, really like the Sigma 45/2.8. An unusual lens optimised so it seems, for bokeh?? I mean: at F2.8
It seems that I can't upload any images here, will see whether I can figure this out, maybe look at the membership (paid versions??).
In the meantime I will just simply read and maybe reply to the odd post.
I noticed that it seems I cannot reply as I don't have a subscription. I didn't know this forum was not very useful unless you have a paid membership. That's ok, FM is the boss and I accept that he can do what he likes. What I am saying is that I simply didn't know that!
Take a look at this thread for instructions for posting images that are hosted on Flickr https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1369568/
I've also used the same method for posting images from smugmug. I expect it works for any similar hosting site.
I don't post often but I wanted to thank all the participants and especially Fred.
Your interventions as well as the site lenstip.com helped me to have an informed opinion on the choice of this objective, a year ago.
My feedback is as follows: this small Sigma 45mm offers the most natural rendering of all the optics I have had. The restitution of the subjects in 3D is the most pleasant (to my taste) with a very progressive/natural bokeh. Not fake 2.5D rendering like other modern optics.
Unfortunately, the lack of reliability in AF-C is more penalizing than I thought.
A little with regret, I fell back on the 35GM whose AF-C is super reliable. The bokeh is not as natural than the Sigma 45 but the GM does better than other luminous 35/40mm.
Thank you again for bringing this site to life!...Show more →
A few little things have happened since my last message. I'm on my third copy of Sigma 45mm and it's much better.
1) it would seem that the first shop sold me the first two copies which were poorly reconditioned specimens.
The third copy, from another shop, works much better.
2) I perceive an improvement in the AF of the Sigma 45mm by going from A9/A1Mk1 to A9Mk3.
Now, I have this optics that offers the rendering that I love and a useable AF.
