Last Friday, I sent another email to Sigma at: [email protected] and today I got an answer:
"Hello Fred,
Thank you for informing us of the issue. We have sent your original email to Japan and they are looking into it. We will let you know their conclusions and response when we get it. Sorry for the delay in responding."
So, it looks like Sigma Japan is aware of the issue.
Just waiting for you to get this fixed before I buy. Need to pay for the A7R4 first I guess.

Cool, yeah I wrote Lensrentals and linked to this thread, so they're aware. Apparently I was the very first person to rent the lens.
After a few days, I have some more thoughts and will post more pics in a bit.
So, the *lack* of corrections is what I see as the strong point of this lens. It draws very similarly to the Takumars or the CV 40/1.2 wide open- very "painterly" bokeh, but with a really nice sharpness where you need it and VERY smooth transition from sharpness to OOF areas. As Fred mentioned, it remains very smooth backgrounds even when stopping down.
I'll more than likely grab one once the price drops down a bit. Although it is very reasonable, I know that an AF lens wouldn't get tons of use, so it's difficult to justify buying it new. I'll say it IS really nice for casual use, to be able to shoot one-handed, so it's tempting....

It's so-so. I used a lot of focus-recompose with moving subjects and it worked well enough, but struggled unless there was a sharp (usually vertical) edge to grab onto. With static or posed stuff it was fine. Also used it in manual (the post-pinata shot and the flower bokeh) and the mf experience is great. Bear in mind that my camera is 1st gen Sony, though.

I'm sure you will get along great with it! It's really nice - there's actually a few kid shots that I like much better than those, but I can't post due to the parents' requests, but trust me, this lens is AWESOME. Really has some magic going on.
Oh, and thanks!!

These are just awesome. I love your style, especially with kids, and I love the rendering of this lens. Thanks!
I was noticing your EV was +2. Do you meter for highlights and then adjust up? Is there a hard and fast amount you think you can pull back from the highlights, like 2.0? I'm sure you've said this somewhere before.

Yes, I usually use +2EV with "Highlight" metering in flat light and lower a bit under high contrast lighting. It's almost an automated ETTR for better shadows.

Do you use that approach strictly in manual mode or does it also work in aperture priority mode with auto ISO?
