Have the Issues with the X1D been resolved? EX: Touch screen to move the focus points around. 1- I know you had to keep touching the Screen more than once to move the focal point around
2- AF hunting
3- too long while the buffer was waiting for several seconds to shoot another image
4- And the other issues it had.
I had the GFX 50S and that was a nice camera with none of these issues. Also, the LCD screen was not as sharp( resolution) on the X1D
Just dont want to buy it if these issues were not resolved or improved. Thanks
Nope none of them have. They just abandoned the camera and came out with the X1DII. The original parts they put into the X1D were under spec hence the slowness (mainly the processor) which is also why it overheats easily.
Thank you for sharing those issues. Maybe I should hold off on getting the X1D
My second choice was the GFX50S. I sold mine a year ago to go to a Nikon D810 and I am sorry I sold it. Never no issues and excellent IQ
The X1D has had a series of significant firmware upgrades. Some have vastly improved the camera and some things have not changed because of hardware limitations.
The rear screen and EVF resolutions are relatively slow. The startup time is glacial. Electronic shutter is here now but has a really slow read out speed. It doesn't do full sized jpegs and the video is rubbish.
AF is significantly improved since release. More focusing points. You can select focus point by dragging on the touch screen in EVF mode. AF with native and most HC lenses is spot on. It's still CDAF though. Don't expect sports focusing. We also get round bokeh balls wide open thanks to a firmware update.
The body is designed to get warm. It's a heat sync for the sensor. It still has the best OS on a camera and the best long exposure implementation on the market. You can get a shutter release cable for it now.
It's still a quirky camera. You need to try one with the latest firmware to see if it's for you. I love mine.
Thanks Gordon, I appreciate that. I will try to get to NYC and try one out at B&H and see how it is.
I dont want to spend the extra money on the X11. Thank you again for all the info you provided. Dennis
