Also, the Tamron firmware does the 'standard' manual focus of varying focus by how fast you move the focus ring, so it isn't a linear manual focus response. This can be good or bad depending on your needs.
The focus ring is not linear but one thing I like better than many other MF-by-wire lenses is that fine-tuning focus seems easy and I would describe the feel as quite "precise". Overall, don't love it, but I really don't hate it either.
It feels much better than e.g. the Rokinon 14/2.8 AF that I had 2-3 years ago, it was almost unusable to me (a tiny turn on the focus ring would move focus way too much and had "inertia" or delay), also better than the 16-35 ZA imo.

I now also have the Tamron.
Had the 16-35 f4, didn't like it - IQ wise, rendering wise, manual focus handling wise.
The Tamron immediately convinced me. Very good sharpness and resolution even at f2.8. Perfect weight and size. Astonishingly quiet (inaudible) and fast autofocus. Having used almost exclusively old manual lenses for the past year with GREAT manual focus experience (and after the ugly experience with the Zony), I was a bit anxious about how the manual focus would be on the Tamron. But although it's focus by wire, it's actually pleasant and precise to use. So, no complaints here!
