swldstn wroteSo I haven't had time to go through this whole thread yet. In general when comparing to the Loxia 21/2.8 (which I have) what are the plus/minus of the Voigtlander? Then if I also have a 24/1.4 GM and even the Batis 18/2.8 is it worth swapping out the Loxia for the Voigt?
I switched out my Loxia for the CV21/1.4 for two reasons:

1) I like the ergonomics of the Voigtlanders a lot more than the Loxias
2) The CV21 is 2 stops faster

The IQ of both lenses is spectacular. The build quality is equal. The Loxia is lighter and a little smaller. I was thrilled with both lenses and was sad to let my Loxia go.

I also have the 24 GM and the Batis 18. I like having separate MF and AF kits, although defending that preference becomes sketchy in this case, especially with the excellent MF performance of the 24GM. I do think that 21mm and 24mm are different enough focal lengths to justify keeping both, particularly if you're a landscape shooter. I love my Batis 18, but not for MF applications - the Batis implementation of MF is not very satisfying in my experience.
Like Guy, I am in a very similar boat. I would add that I also like the CV 21 f/1.4 for its great close focus performance, and the only thing I didn't like about the Loxia was the aperture ring. I do wish the CV 21 f/1.4 were lighter, but in time I am likely to get the CV 21 f/3.5 which is truly light when I want a smaller kit.

On the AF side, I also have the Batis 18 and really like it, but because my MF kit is pretty small I am thinking of going with larger faster lenses for most of my AF kit. I may add the Sigma Art 28 f/1.4, the Sony ZA 50 f/1.4, the Sony GM 85 f/1.4, and the Sony GM 135 f/1.8. Even though I really like the Batis 18, I am not sure I will keep it. I might just use the CV 21 f/1.4 with the AF kit.
I went through some changes in my kit as well. We are really lacking superb 28mm and 35mm MF E-mount lenses. (Voigtlander or Zeiss).
Strictly for landscapes though, I'm currently shooting CV 15/4.5 III, CV 21/1.4, Loxia 35/2, CV 65/2 and 100-400 GM. I find these 5 lenses do everything I need for any scene.
As far as resolution, my weakest lenses are the CV 15 and Loxia 35 but both have great qualities I appreciate like color rendering, sunstar rendering, flare resistance and low distortion.

I am very happy with my AF kit as well and it's similar to yours: 24/1.4, 50/1.4 ZA, 85/1.4 and 135/1.8 GM lenses. I recently added the Sigma 45/2.8 as a compact and light walk-around lens for the daytime. For low light and when only carrying one small/fast lens, I love the CV 40/1.2 Nokton.
Fred, this was back in 2019, whats is todays present lineup looking like using MF lenses

Strictly MF lenses, I'd think that the Voigtlander 35/2 APO + 50/2 or 65/2 APO should be top considerations. For the wide range we have Voigtlander 21/1.4, Loxia 21/2.8, Loxia 25/2.4 and for the ultra wide, the CV 15/4.5 III.

However, I would be tempted to combine AF and MF lenses (zooms and primes):

Sigma 14-24/2.8 DG DN or Sony 12-24/2.8 GM (Both stronger performers than CV 15 and similar to the Loxias)
Voigtlander 35/2 APO or Sigma 35/2 DG DN
Voigtlander 65/2 APO or Sigma 65/2 DG DN
Perhaps one telephoto prime like the Batis 135/2.8

So many options now.

That's kind of the route I'm going (although I'm keeping my Loxia 21.) I run the Sigma 14-24 in both my AF and MF kits. And I'm sort of going the dual 35/65 CV and Sigma route. CV 50/2 and Sigma 45. Then I have the 110 CV/Sigma 105 2.8 macro.

I'd love to have the Batis 135.

Thanks Fred.

I am using the CV15 & Loxia 21. If I wanted a zoom I would definitely consider the Sigma 14-24

In the alt forum there is a thread asking what's your favorite CV lenses, I replied I only have the 15, but would like the 21 1.4, 35 & 50 APO 2

My question though strictly for landscape at f8 is, how well will the CV 35 & 50 1.2 SE perform

Like wise the same question for the CV 65.

Looks like great minds are starting to converge: Lloyd C. wrote this on his blog today:
'The 35/2 APO looks like the best 35mm lens ever on any 35mm-format platform.... I might have to try 2 or 3 samples to get a really good one because together with the Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM and the Voigtlander FE 35/2 APO and Voigtlander FE 50/2 APO (and Voigtlander FE 65/2 APO), there never before has been so compact and so outrageously good 'kit' from 12mm to 65mm. This is the golden age of photography.'

Thanks to everyone in this thread for their samples.

Wow, what a little chonk this thing is on the M10-R. Only had time to take a few snapshots around the house, but so far, I'm impressed with the sharpness at MFD, and the corners at infinity look good at f/5.6. Infinity focus on the M rangefinder patch is spot-on at hard lock. The CV 21 3.5 Color-Skopar I tried focused past infinity, which is a no-go for me on the M.

I've tried CV 21/1.4 M-mount version before and it's just as good as the E-mount. It's sharp at MFD since SA is not under-corrected for this Nokton.
At least you don't have to worry about the lens' length blocking the frame lines. :=)

p.40 #13Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 Nokton Review
Hello everybody

I’m finding this thread really useful. I have been tempted by the Voigtländer 21/1.4 for quite some time. More recently, I was fortunate to pick up an excellent, barely used second-hand copy of the Sony 12-24/2.8 GM, which I could not be more pleased with. But I find myself still wondering about the 21/1.4, for low light landscapes.

So, I would be very interested to hear thoughts on how the 12-24/2.8 and 21/1.4 compare, particularly with respect to contrast, colour rendering and sharpness. Whether I can justify the 21/1.4 to myself perhaps depends on whether its performance between f/2.8 and wide open is comparable to or, ideally, better than what can be achieved using the 12-24 at f/2.8.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've been enjoying your CV 21/1.4 Nokton images! There is a lot of pop, especially when the subject is a mid-distance.
I had the E-mount for many years years and just ordered the M version.
I am curious how it compares to the Leica 21/3.4 at ~ f/5.6.
