p.1 #1 · Does any have the NITECORE UCN3 digital USB travel charger?
Hey guys,
I wanted to ask if anyone here has the NITECORE UCN3 digital USB travel charger. On their website it says it is for LP-E6N batteries and I was wondering if any knew if it also works with the older LP-E6 batteries. I sent them an email several weeks ago and no one has ever gotten back to me (which in itself kind of makes me wonder...)

Buy a rubber band or two, you will need them. The product itself works well, but the batteries fall out of the slots quite easily (at least on the model I have). Not much of a problem around the house, but in a car or a backpack you will want something to keep the batteries from popping out.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other LP-E6 USB battery chargers?
I'm looking for one that is small, works well and can charge 2 batteries at the same time.
I found this one that I quite like but I don't need the 2 batteries it comes with and I can't find the charger alone available for sale.

you are correct if charging while on the move I have done that as the batts are held in place with somewhat lackluster magnetic pull. rarely need to do this as I wait till that nighttime downtime.
I will use a adlibbed line from the clint eastwood film Kellys Heros about you: "always with the negative"
minor issue for a product that works, saves space, and is relatively cheap. I carry 2

I have the UCN1, UCN2 and UCN 3.
LP-E6 and LP-E6N are the same for the charging, but give me a bit of time and I will update this thread with the UCN2 and UCN3 issues.

That charger looks nice! I didn’t realize Nitecore made camera battery chargers. I have similar digital chargers for 18650/AA/barrel-type batteries, and they’re great. I’ll have to order one; I wish they made one for Panasonic batteries too. Thanks for the heads up!

I had one that looked just like it another name that died very quickly.
The LEDs just went nuts and it would keep restarting without charging the batteries.
One charged partway.

UCN1
I'm not commenting on the UCN1, because I think it is obsolete and the UCN3 is similar. I have no issues with the UCN1 though I never used it for anything but a single LP-E6N.
UCN3
The UCN3 is fine for a single battery, but with two batteries attached it alternately charges one battery for a few seconds then charges the other until one of them is completely charged. The overall charge time can therefore be rather long for two batteries in different charge states. A basic LP-E6 charger from various manufacturers that charges two in parallel can be faster than the UCN3 in that case, though they don't provide the detailed display info of a Nitecore. If you use two batteries at the same charge state, e.g., in a grip, then most all of the USB 2x chargers will end up about the same time since they are limited by 10W input.
UCN2
The UCN2 is a larger and heavier dual battery charger. It charges two batteries at the same time on the same side and has electronics and a display for each. It is unusual in that although the input is a conventional micro USB port, it accepts QC 2.0 or higher, 9Vx2A in this case. A single battery charges at a max 1.2A vs. 0.8A for two batteries. Unfortunately either due to heat or inaccurate voltage measurements, and battery chip reset, or a combination, there are problems. Much of time the battery will not charge completely and charging two at a time doesn't fully resolve the issue. Sometimes re-installing the battery will restart charge and it will complete.
At this time I'm mainly traveling with a UCN3 in the carryon, but with 1-2 LC-E6 chargers in the luggage. The LC-E6 is still the fastest and most reliable charging option for the LP-E6/N. I have the UCN2 set up at home in a central charging area, but I would not buy one again.
In case anyone is into testing batteries and chargers, I use cheap LED video lights to discharge the LP-E6/N. Several are available with various adapter plates for Sony, Nikon, Canon, etc. batteries.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I wanted an USB charger to keep things simple when traveling but to be honest I'm quite wary of the cheap USB chargers. I'm always worried that it will catch fire when I'm asleep. I could just be paranoid but I have a healthy respect for lithium batteries.
I mostly use my original Canon charger because it has a "T" (or temperature) connection to the battery pack and most third party chargers don't. They just rely on a temp sensor in the charger itself if they have one at all. Still the convenience of USB is tempting...
