The photo tells the story, here. I captured this while out shooting birds at Lakeside Park, Chesapeake, VA. It was great watching a dad and his sons fish together and dad teaching the younger one to cast, but it was a little unsettling seeing the older son become almost enveloped in a smoke cloud.
Neat photo, thanks for sharing! Such thick smoke! I guess it's a vape, not a cigarette? Cause if it's a cigarette, I don't think it's very thoughtful of him to smoke in his son's direction. I've heard vaping is no better, though I've bought a nice one on https://vapingdaily.com/ to give it a try and honestly, I felt much better after a month without cigarettes.

Thanks for the comment! Dad was definitely vaping. IMHO, it's a darn shame that these delivery systems are around and that they were promoted so heavily, especially to young people. Dad, all things considered, was a very thoughtful guy. Here's another photo.

Fred, the wind carried it a bit, as I recall. I guess it's tough when you gotta smoke, but at the same time want to spend time with your boys and teach them how to fish. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Um,"gotta smoke"? Sorry, this is beyond inconsiderate. I appreciate the photo, but it sickens me that the dad cannot hold off long enough to spend some quality time with his son.

The boy is not actually in the cloud, and this was a freak event. Also, my guess is a vaping cloud is much less toxic that a smoke one. I watched everything. Great dad caring for his boys and taking them fishing. Look closely at the 2nd photo for evidence.

I agree with you that vaping is less toxic than cigarette smoke for sure. I also agree that the dad has a nice bond with the son.
My issue is that he cannot abstain from this during his time with his children. Sets an awful example and still toxic *if* it gets into the kids bodies.

Thanks for the feedback, but I don't think any of that matters. The boys have a father who appears to be actively involved in their lives, and they'll be better off for it. Would that boys and girls everywhere would be so lucky.

Actually, it *does* matter, as vape vapor has been shown to cause health concerns. I agree that having an actively involved dad is far better than none, but this shows such inconsideration for the kids' health, that it overwhelms the image itself - IMO.

I'm not entirely confident the kid isn't buried in that vape smoke cloud. If he's not, the angle of the shot gives it that impression, so honestly I don't think this was a good choice as it's only natural that we address that more than the quality of the image. And the quality is not that great, there's nothing really interesting in that image other than the cloud obscuring the boy, and leading us to have this conversation.
The second image is pretty cool. It really shows the two having a good time fishing.

Thanks, but I'm going to go with "quiet professional shot" (see above). I think I took the photo in 2018. Interesting that it's generated this much interest. That's all I had hoped it would do. For me, anyway, photography is all about capturing unique moments like this and sharing them with others.
