This is an old thread, but I just applied for the Payboo card. I was given a number to call and was asked to complete the credit app using a smartphone. I did that and was asked to take a 5 minute video of myself and to photograph both sides of my driver's license as part of a verification process. Didn't seem kosher to me.

Sorry. More like 5 second, not 5 minute. Looking from left to right as if I were shaking my head to say "no." I finally went ahead with the whole thing, that and taking a pic of my license, and was approved for the card. Before doing all that I'd contacted Henry Posner @ B&H who assured me that the Synchrony bank requirements were unusual but legit. The folks at the bank were pleasant and helpful.

These "banks" that fund some credit cards are a bit "wonky"! Henry Posner is a great guy and won't lead one astray!
I don't have a "smart phone" so I guess that auto disqualifies me right away.
It is fine to be cautious!
I had my ID stolen in a Russian hack in 2019 and, unless you have had this happen to you, one has NO idea the "fallout" this brings years later and still!!!

My wife's wallet was lifted out of her handbag with her driver license and documents including her DOB and home address. The thieves wasted no time and made numerous purchases. At one point a helpful store sales clerk offered to revive an existing but dormant store credit card based on her stolen photo-ID even though my wife was a slender white woman and the thief was neither.
Ended up costing us almost nothing but we were refinancing our mortgage at the time and there was plenty of stress.

I was in a federal govt database that was hacked! The financial ramifications were eventually addressed but the character assassinations, myself, my wife and my family, still flood the web and don't even talk about the "dark web"!!!!

Applied for B&H PayBoo card a while ago, very routine. Accepted. Has now saved me hundreds of dollars on a number of B&H purchases. Never buy anything without the cash to back it up and always keep it paid off. Have never had a second's worth of trouble from B&H or Synchrony about it.
Also had a Discount Tire card administered by Synchrony. Same story, easy peezy application, no special requirements, and no problems. That one did carry a significant balance a few times. In any case, sorry for the awful experiences, but have not experienced any of those issues here.
