They're saying there's some kind of fraud alert attached to the account and that the phone number I've given them (my cell phone number, the same number I've had for the past 25 years!) needs to be verified. Verified? My cell phone? The ONLY cell phone I've ever had? No entity I've ever dealt with, including the U.S. Government, has ever challenged the legitimacy of my cell phone number!
I've asked our bank liaison to check into this but the last time a customer encountered a problem similar to this, providing the bank with a landline turned out to be the solution.

Problem with that, Henry, there are many folks these days, I included, who do not have landlines!! Thus, to make use of PB, would require adding in the cost of a landline, assuming that one lived in a location where securing a landline was possible. In my Condo, the only landlines that are available are those that fall under Comcast Business. So, the monthly cost of that service would be about $70/month. Seems likely Synchrony doesn’t know how to “synchronize” their business practice. :tweak:

Perhaps my reply was incomplete. The last time a customer encountered a problem similar to this, the customer had a landline too. Providing the bank with that landline turned out to be the solution.

Henry: like so many other people these days ... perhaps numbering in the tens of millions ... we no longer have a landline. We gave up our two landline numbers when we moved from NJ to WA.
In my case, the "issue" has to do with "possible fraudulent use of my cell phone number in the past." That's what Synchrony says, and that's all they will tell me.
However, according to AT&T, my carrier, there has been NO incidence of fraudulent use of my cell phone in all the years I've had it. They also told me that had there been anything remotely like fraudulent use, I would have been immediately notified and my cell phone number would have had to be changed. It has NEVER been changed, and I have NEVER been notified of any fraudulent use connected with my cell phone number.
In any event, this misses the real point: the point is, a Synchrony MANAGER approved my card and I received the card in the mail. Why did they issue the card in the first place if they had perceived a problem? Bad, bad, bad service ....

I don't have a landline either. See my reply to Henry's post.

Outdated information often lingers in an account or financial history database. My family moved from our apartment to our single-family home 20+ years ago. You'd think the old address, different city and zip code, would have aged out by now.
Our bank liaison here is reaching out to the bank in an effort to get this resolved.

I appreciate the help, Henry. You know I do. At the suggestion of the Synchrony manager who approved my card, I checked my credit files with the three major credit bureaus for wrong or outdated information. I saw nothing in the reports that would suggest something is amiss with either my credit standing (my score is over 800) or with my cell phone.

I have had dealings with Synchrony with other cards and i find them not so customer friendly, I was sorry to see B&H using them
Likewise, I have had a Synchrony account via a GAP credit card. They spammed the living hell out of my phone, so much that I canceled the card immediately. This is a VERY shady bank.

I don't believe that B&H is serious about giving anyone a Payboo card. I've been a professional photographer for 30 years. I am also a B&H Affiliate. I had my wife apply for a Payboo card first about two months ago, but I recently applied after she was rejected. We both had the exact same experience. My credit score is currently 799, 810, and 803 (Experian, Equifax, and Transunion). I checked my Morgan Stanley Premier Protection for these scores before applying.
After completing the application process, both of us were given this message:
Please Call 1-877-794-8400 to complete the application process.
We called the above number a few days later. The bank told both of us that we needed to wait for a letter. The letter arrived 10 days later, and were rejected!
We were both rejected due to the bank " not being able to verify [our] address. We have been at our address for 20+ years!"
I am hard of hearing, so having to call to speak with a bank representative is extremely frustrating. It was frustrating to make the effort to call the bank, go through the phone tree, wait while on hold, then be told that it was all for nothing!
It's simply stunning to me that both my wife and I, with basically perfect credit scores, have both been rejected. I wrote my Affiliate rep earlier about this and never heard back from him.
Perhaps someone at B&H can offer some insight on why B&H has wasted my time with this ridiculous process.
For the other B&H customers, I'd say don't bother trying to apply for the ridiculous Payboo card. They should call it the "Effyoo" card instead. In my 30 years as a customer of B&H, I've been happy and loyal. No longer. B&H has lost this customer by wasting my time with their Effyoo card.

I got my Payboo card approved within 4 hours of filling out the online application. It would have been approved faster but I have a credit freeze in place and they had to call me back to confirm a few things.
Have already used it several times with substantial tax savings online and in-store.
B&H will help if needed, but the ultimate decision to issue the card is with the bank. Perhaps Synchrony's verification systems need an upgrade.

I am very sorry Synchrony Bank, not B&H, declined your application and your wife's. The application and approval process is theirs and theirs alone. They do not consult with us, we cannot influence their decision, we cannot intervene on an applicant's behalf. If an application is declined they tell us nothing about the reason, to protect the applicant's privacy. Despite your experience, thousands have applied successfully and used the card without incident. I regret your dissatisfaction.

Anyone who has driven in Seattle lately would not say the roads are in fine shape. We can’t even keep the homeless from practically living on them. That 10.1% is not maintaining roads or parks or sidewalks very well.
Interesting caution re: the Payboo card. I’ll apply prior to m6 next big purchase and see how it goes. That bank sounds questionable.

Sorry, but if B&H pairs up with a bank/partner -- and that partner treats customers badly -- then that behavior by the partner reflects badly on B&H. B&H should never have teamed up with a partner as bad as Synchrony Bank.
I've never been one to equate quantity with quality but if they were as bad as you think they are I think they'd have fewer names in their roster. YMMV

That's strange. I have an Amazon credit card, and it's issued by Chase. I do see that Synchrony Bank issues an "Amazon Store Card." I wonder how that's any different.
I've been a customer of B&H Photo for 30+ years and have never had a bad experience. B&H has always been one of the most professional and knowledgeable companies around. So yes, this bad experience carries over to my experience with B&H. Sorry, that's just how my memory and mind work. Maybe other people would feel differently if a company that they trusted so much for so long, partnered up with another company, and then this partner wasted their (the customer's) time in such a slippery way. Plus your customers got a hard credit pull as a result of applying for this partner credit card, which lowers their credit score.

Consumer Affairs is one teeny step above ‘RipOff Report’ and operates on a similar level to ‘Yelp’.
Any person can write anything they like on those sites, for any reason, and the company on the receiving end has as much power to do anything about it as a candle has to light your way in a force 9 gale.
