Nice Mark!
I think the 90-280 is possibly the best SL zoom produced so far.
I believe it is (although I've never shot the Panasonic's). I shoot it all through the range. I'm not sure how to explain it but it has a look to it similar to the big whites I used to shoot from Canon and Sony (which I LOVED), the 300/2.8's in particular. If you can handle the weight of this beast (which, when comparing it to the big whites, isn't so bad), I think anyone shooting it would be happy.

Hi Vario-SL owners,
how do these Vario-SL lenses work on Panasonic DC-S1(R) compared to Leica SL(-2) cameras?
Thank you for answering.

I have used the Leica Vario-SL zoom lenses on both SL and S1(R) bodies. Other the operational difference of these two bodies, I do not notice any body/lens interface issues nor image quality differences. These zoom lenses work well on S1(R) for me.

I've used them on both and they work just as well on the Panasonic bodies. AF and all functions are just as good.
I own the 24-90 and it is always on my S1 when travelling or for events. Tried the 90-280 and 16-35 in a Leica store and was very impressed with them as well. Hoping to collect all three over the next 2 years.
Thought this would be of interest. Gave the Leica CL 11-23mm 3.5-4.5 lens a shot on my S1 at the Leica store and I was actually very impressed. Might pick it up as a ultralight wide angle for photo/video.
