p.1 #1 · Unforgettable sunrise at Playa de Gueirua, Asturias
This truly amazing sunrise greeted us at Playa de Gueirua, in Asturias, on the last day of last year's Workshop I led in Spain. Simply unforgettable! A 23 seconds exposure with my Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 30mm and my trusty Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

Killer color. For me, these kinds of shots are a bit on the fence. The ss is long enough to create motion but not long enough to really smooth out the clouds so, for me personally, it's an awkward inbetween zone. Same with waterfalls. Good job holding the tones in check...but then again...hassy Fun stuff!

"Nevermind, I'd rather be able to afford food this month."
(fantastic sunrise pic, by the way)
Thank yo very much, I am glad you enjoyed the pic!
Yes, the Firecrest Ultra are expensive, with a complete enough kit going for around 800-1000 US. However, if you don't break them they will last you forever, and [START RANT] my take on this is that there is little sense to me in spending multiple k on camera & lenses and then putting bad filters in front of all that - every chain is as strong as its weaker link, and the image taking chain, sadly, is often at its weakest on filters and tripod / heads (not to mention education / tutoring)... but people keeps buying new cameras instead, thinking it will improve their photography (and camera manufacturers definitely thank us for that!) rather than investing in filters / tripods / workshops / portfolio readings and so on, which would improve their photography much more than the newest model of camera X with double the pixels or something of that sort [/END RANT] Sorry about the rant, not directed at you, just general considerations!

Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! I see you point re: ss, however (and without going into the age old long-exposure debate), in this case I also shot shorter and longer exposures but I ended up not liking either because long exposure were losing structure in the clouds; faster exposures, on the other hand, made the see in the foreground a bit too messy and stopped the reflection of the gorgeous sky color, so I went for middle ground here - enough shutter speed to blur the sea and make it into a reflecting mirror for the sky's colour, but not as long as to blur the clouds into something too shapeless. Hope this helps!
Which is all good. But should be noted. It does not take away from the skill or the work or the talent.
I too have Formatt filters, and I am definitely not featured or sponsored. The rare times that I use them I always appreciate that they are wonderful pieces of kit and well worth the €€.

Thank you for your kind words about my work, much appreciated I am indeed a FH Featured Artist and I don't make any secret of that, but for the record I am not a Leica Ambassador anymore, I resigned from Leica on December 2018: https://www.vieribottazzini.com/2019/01/a-new-chapter-ahead-farewell-leica.html and I am now using Hasselblad X1D exclusively for my landscape work, and - also for the record - I have no connections with Hasselblad other than loving my X1Ds

Ahh, you may wish to update the Formatt page that I linked to then.
