The Leofoto LS-284C is the best bang-for-buck tripod in the business.

I never thought to myself that the tripod is need of new innovation. Sure, advances in materials happen but whatever PD is trying to do here is nonsense, IMO. PD is the hipster brand and at this price this is more likely to be a tripod strapped to one of their overpriced backpacks which never comes off and the bag never opens.

I've heard this a couple times here and it makes me chuckle Please explain to me exactly what makes it "hipster" and over priced. I love when people tell others what the value to them should be I have Benro and RRS tripods that both serve different purposes. Both priced drastically different, yet to me they are both worth what I paid for them. I suppose in your world if I just bought the RRS tripod I'd be a "hipster". But there is the dilemma, a "hipster" wouldn't lower themselves to buy a Benro. So where does that leave me

I guess we won't really know whether this tripod is a revolution in tripodology or overpriced hipster bait until it comes out in seven months or so.

In general, I have found PD bags to not be so functional. IMO they are more about the look than functionality. Same appears to be the case for this tripod. It looks over engineered but that’s my opinion. I do like the PD straps but my love affair ends there.

I like my PD products. It’s unfortunate to see some people have stuff falling apart. But mine has held up for a few years now through pretty frequent use.

But I am tired of everything being crowd funded. Make a product, set a price and sell it to me. It’s probably not a concern with this company in particular, but generally speaking I’m not interested in the model and so I won’t support it.

Same here. I've had no problem with PD gear. However, customer service is good. My friend's bag had some stitching come apart and they sent him a new bag, no questions asked!

BTW - I bit and ordered via Kickstarter. I love a good travel tripod as much as I travel for work.

Wealthy hipster tendencies! It gets no worse.

Sorry, I coukdn’t resist. It is not a dig at you as a person.

Personally, I reckon that I am such a hipster I am not even sure what a hipster is, although I think it has something to do with beards and tattoos - maybe absence of socks?

Hipster - noun - a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream

It’s all good. To each their own. Everyone should buy products they like. Doesn’t mean we can’t poke fun or make comments.

I'm all for fun, and don't worry I honestly don't take anything personal. But, Pot meet kettle! Look at the locations you have in your gallery. They are about as "hipster" as you can get So I guess we are both "hipsters"

Yep...PD should be big enough to fund their own developments. I'm not a fan regarding crowd funding.

"I'm not a fan regarding crowd funding" In PD case since they are a proven company I don't see how it is a negative for either the company or the consumer. What is not to like. Both get what they want in the end. It's a win win.

It looks like they are selling an awful lot of tripods. They were looking for $500,000. There are now 8178 backers who have pledged $3, 614, 752.

I'm that friend, and yes they did. What Bob didn't mention was how I bought the bag secondhand and had no receipt or proof of purchase, and they STILL gave me a new bag.

Bob, I actually moved on from my cheapo aluminum tripod before my Ireland trip and I love my new one! (LS-284C) I'd be curious to see how the Travel Tripod stacks up against it with regards to stability! Here's hoping for a better Kickstarter process than Arsenal

Good to know, I have a new bag (5L) with stitching coming apart.

I quite like this thing.
It packs so compactly and the adjustment ring on the ballhead resembles my favorite ballhead, the Arca-Swiss P0. I personally don't mind that it doesn't have a panning base.
The center column looks so thin and unstable, but maybe I'm wrong.
At this price I'm almost certain I won't be buying one though.
