p.3 #1 · Film/slide digitizing using Sony 90mm lens and Nikon ES-2

I ended up with a hybrid setup for mine. I needed to get 11 7/8" from the sensor to the film plane to make it work with the Tamron 90mm macro and the step up/down rings didn't do. And adding more rings got too costly. Here is my setup... so far working very well

To convert negatives, use negativelabpro.com

It is a game changer. Super easy and quick to use. They also have a trial period so you can see for yourself before buying.

Short note to show how the Nikon ES-2 can be adapted for use with the Sony 90mm lens to get 42MP scans of slides and film (remember them?). The Nikon ES-2 is meant for use with the Nikon 850 and a Nikon 60mm macro lens. It easily attaches to the lens with the 62mm filter thread. The Sony 90mm lens also has a 62mm thread but the ES-2 is too short. I use a set of adapter rings to add the distance required to hold the film at the 1:1 working distance of the 90mm lens. The set up is

Hi,

Very interesting setup you are using to scan slides with your A7RII and the 90mm macro !

May I ask you what settings you are using on your camera and which aperture on the lense ?

Cheers,

Mostly I used f/8, ISO 100, 1/15 sec. I stopped down a bit to increase the DOF to help with any film curvature.
There are now some adapters that don't require all the work I did to get the film holder at the right distance for the Sony 90mm. Also a lot less money. There was some discussion in a recent thread but I can't find it.

Edit: See this thread, p1 #9.
