You're welcome!

You peaked my interest. A little better light and I'll give it another try. This would be one of those times that I miss the 400 f/2.8.

I had a little more light this morning and gave the 1120mm a go again. I am amazed at the quality I am getting with this setup. It appears I am getting infinity focus also. Live view in good light is fast. If it does lose focus then it is slow. It really helps to prefocus then use AF.

That's a nice setup - I like the shorter hood on the 400.

I'm noticing some really shallow DOF with the stacked converters.

The sun is out here today - I may go for another set of images this afternoon. I'm curious, though in practice, the 500 and 2X or 500 and 1.4X make a great setup without stacking. It's not practical without my tripod, at least not for me.

I agree Tom, the 500mm with either one of the extenders would be my choice too. This setup I would not use a lot but nice knowing it can produce something if need be. Honestly it worked better than I thought. I would use a tripod also vs handheld especially with live view, it is just easier. I love the short hood.

Just out of pure interest sake, I just saw that a member posted some 1120mm shots stacking the Sony FE converters on the 400GM: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1583154/16#14835081
Looks like it does a fairly good job as well.

Good looking examples on the Sony gear. Thanks for posting.

A couple from this afternoon, same setup, 500/4 II, 1.4X III, and 2X II. I don't think I'm quite as sharp on details as you are with the 400 III. Hard to tell though.

I'm doing this with my RP - Despite the allegedly inferior sensor, I'm enjoying the body and trying to get used to it.

My squirrel again. This one ignores me.

Very nice setup! What is that tab that is screwed into the 1/4"-20 hole on the side of the RRS FH-350?

Good eyes, it is a Really Right Stuff FA-QR1 SNAP QR Adapter. I use it for attaching a mic or a video monitor at times. Here is an example, how I use it. This is Sachlter head but set up with the same adapter.

I saw that and I’m torn between it and the 200-400.

Yes they are the Version III TC's with the 12mm version II tube. No extra sharping, I always size my pics to 16x24 for Flickr and do my standard work flow. I used the same method on these. I use smart sharpen in PS CC. I agree with stacking TC's I never have had great results in the past. I think the main factor here is I am starting with f2.8. This 400mm lens keeps amazing me. I never owned the MK II version of the 400mm f2.8 and wonder how good that is also. There is one on this

Looking good, not my first go to but in a pinch it is not bad at all. I assume you used live view to focus?

Thank you, Ron. The coupling as body/1.4/tube/2.0/lens allowed me to focus w/o LV, but when use body/2.0/tube/1.4/lens (with LV only) or PF mode. This is not the best option because focusing is slow. The only possible benefit is that this combination can use for static inaccessible objects.

I assume you mean what version of extenders, if so they are the Canon III version thus the need for the tube to connect them
