I was in Carrizo from March, 26th to the 30th. The bloom, at that time, was not as strong as it was in 2017 but still very nice. The one good thing about this visit was the weather that helped a lot in some of my compositions. Here is a sample of what I'm writing about. I'm going back down tomorrow (4/7) for a few days and I'm very curious to see how the bloom has changed.
I think the second-to-last may be my favorite — I like the valley bottom snaking up between the hills.
This turned out to be a pretty good year on the Carrizo — and, for that matter, in a whole lot of the drier and hotter parts of California. I was at this location twice — once likely about when you were there, and then again at the beginning of April. Both were good, but the later time was even better. Friends of mine were there this past weekend, and they report that there are some spent flowers, but also some new ones to replace them. I suspect the peak is now passed, but there are lots of other great places to find California wildflowers. (I was at one in the SF Bay Area just yesterday.)
