I hiked to 'The Subway' in Zion National Park on Thursday. The ranger tried to dissuade me from going due to the quicksand issues and the possibility of snow and ice. I decided to go as the forecast seemed to be good and I am so glad I went. I only encountered 3 other hikers throughout the day and there was no ice/ snow at all. The creek was running high which made for some really cool waterfalls. Archangel and Guardian falls looked amazing. The Subway had too much water to get the cool photos with the potholes, but it was great to finally check it out. I will say that I am a pretty avid hiker, but found the hike to be tedious and very tiring (that I was carrying all this heavy camera gear did not help). Here are some photos - thanks for looking.

NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED THAT YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO RANGER!! Folks like you are the ones that rangers have to risk their lives saving when you get your butt in a ringer. Nature always wins!
Thanks all. It was pretty incredible to see the waterfalls flowing with such gusto. I definitely want to go back in the fall to capture 'The Subway' with the pools and the fall colors.

Dude, get a grip on yourself. The rangers would have CLOSED the hike if they felt it was dangerous (as they often do to 'The Subway' and 'The Narrows'). This hike was NOT closed and it had been sunny for a few days. The rangers have the propensity to exaggerate a lot - as evidenced by her saying there was ice and snow on the trail when there wasn't any. Maybe think before replying in such a hostile manner in the future. Jeez!

I also feel it was unnecessary for someone to say that, but I don't think the rangers can close this. Remember Keyhole Canyon a few years ago when they told the group of 7 that it is ill advised to go, but they went anyways - and every single one drowned?
Anyways, I really like these photos! Too bad the water was too high for you to shoot the Subway. Spring runoff will be super high this year, so probably won't be ideal for the actual Subway until busy season. Early November is EXCELLENT, and you can get a walk up permit

I thought that since they do close 'The Narrows' (and they had multiple times when I was there), they might do the same for this location. I will definitely check this place out in November as I do want to capture some shots in 'The Subway'. I couldn't even photograph the famous crack near the location as there was too much water. Oh they definitely close most everything in the valley, as 95% of the tourists visit there, but anything else is game on You should check out La Verkin creek area of Zion. Kolob Canyon area they JUST opened after almost a year of being closed due to repaving
Nice set of images. Looked at your GOPRO video. I had some issues with my GOPRO 6 getting the jitters also. It only did it in 4K. Also I have two processors one smaller than the other and when I down loaded it on my larger processor the problem went away. Who knows!

Hi Don. So what do you think the issue is? Is it the EIS? I have a 2017 Quad Core Macbook Pro with Kaby Lake. I think that should be good. I am a little frustrated as such an output is really unusable. The retailer is sending me another GoPro to check out and I will see. But I wonder what the core issue is? I think I will try and keep the shutter speed constant and try with the stabilization on and then off to see if it makes a difference.
