I just picked one up at Samy’s Camera in LA and I’m blown away by the incredible sharpness and details. The size and weight is very nice, the AF is lightning fast and silent. I can’t wait to go shoot with this lens and see what it can do. Will follow with some samples.
I do hope Sony will figure out to make this lens more attractive (and also to keep up with the current demand). Beside the big whites, this is probably the biggest accomplishment Sony has done to date. None of the other contenders comes close to what this lens can do. Glad I got this one the release day.

Don't believe Sony raised the GM 24 price due to tariffs. But ya, they need to fix this low production problem. It has been almost a year now
No sorry I meant for the accomplishment. My local Sony dealer gets them in from time to time, amazingly they don't sell right away too, they don't even have anyone on the waiting list last time I asked.
I think the 135GM has either a higher production or less sales because it's easier to get
Do these 135's sit on shelves? I've gone to some camera shops and they've always been sold out. I got mine day one from pre-order, but I've gone to look for a couple of people and they're never in stock here in So. Cal. Usually Samy's or Best Buy, but yeah if they're sitting on shelves somewhere, feel free to point me in the right direction!

B&C in Vegas had a couple sitting in the store for a while they sold them now though. They told me when they get the 135GM and the 24GM (as well as 400 and 600) that are supposed to be "hot sellers" they always sit for a few days. Their first 200-600 shipment however was gone in a flash 😂
Overly optimistic. Sony already boosted the price $200. They won't be eager to reverse that. First US discount is likely to be 10% EDU discount four to six months from release.

Instant rebates will be coming as these 135mm start to sit on the store shelves.

And the Sigma just became $200 more attractive.
The 135mm GM is a PERFORMANCE lens. It's for people who need super fast responsiveness plus sharpness in low light. I was fine IQ-wise with my 135 Sony ZA. But the GM performance is what I was after and that would be the tipping point for photographers who want to acquire the GM.
So, if people are confused about whether or not to get the GM vs. a different 135MM f1.8...those two focus motors in the GM are - IMHO - the tipping point. And those focus motors REALLY come into play in low light.
So...if you are not shooting in low light and super fast focusing is not a priority for you - there really ARE other 135mm f1.8 lenses for less money that have EXCELLENT IQ - which translates to excellent photographs that would be - side-by-side - likely indistinguishable from the 135mm GM. You in no way would be working with "lesser" equipment.
Photo gear is tools - that's it - that's all. If I won the lottery and could buy what ever I wanted, I'd own a garage full of car toys and a studio full of photo toys.
But until that happens, I have to ask myself questions when I own gear: what do I want to shoot the most often? What is the piece of gear that will do what I need for it to do? The ZA worked most of the time but the GM works ALL of the time - for me - in the low light situations I need for it to be super fast and razor sharp.
Daylight, slower-moving subjects and portraits? No, I wouldn't need the GM.
