Aside from rendering style, I find that the 135 GM gets the job done no matter what I am shooting.
This is probably what I love the most about the 135 GM and the 24 GM: they are just extremely versatile while also providing top image quality. Sony really did a top job with these two. The funny thing is that if I had a 24-135mm zoom, I would probably end up shooting most images at either 24mm or 135mm, so a pretty good combo in my book.
Still love my Sony Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 too, looking forward to see its rendering compared to the 24 GM on the same subjects.

I recently got the 135 and love it. Surprise! I don't shoot any portraits... I got it for the focal length and the speed since I sometimes like more subject isolation then a slower lens can provide. I also like the size ... I have owned both 70-200s and the 135 is more discrete looking on the body for street scenes etc. Love the IQ and I had a record number of keepers when testing it by taking pictures of my dog at 1.8. My AF kit now just needs a 50 1.4. Kinda bummed I missed out on buying Guy's (glad you are getting better)...Show more →
Come hell or high water I’m heading to Big Bronco now. I need to shoot this lens. Been waiting 2.5 months
So there has been a name change to Big Bronco with this lens. Due to serious distance restrictions it is now Big Bro as you can see where the camera is now
So crops look a little different now and im just not sure what to say. Im in shock how good this lens is.
If been shooting this test a long time with every damn lens you could imagine even my Medium Format tech cams. Im not sure i have seen a lens this sharp
I will get out more and I have several jobs where I know I will be using this lens. But let me go back to a earlier statement. I need sharp at 1.8 and im not sure you could not ask for more. I use this lens a lot in many scenarios and this fits the bill to a T. Im so glad I pre ordered it and if you did not and you ACTUALLY FREAKING CARE about lens quality than I think you should sell the wife and kids and go buy one. You have one life and I just been put through freaking hell and I still have a long road on treatment. Go enjoy your life
Im calling it the best lens Sony made to date award 2019. To me as good as the 24mm is this maybe better.
In my mind the 24 and 135 are the catch all as many scenarios as possible type lenses. They do everything extremely well but if you want it to be different than know how to post process

Guy,
Glad to see your getting back into the saddle on the Big Bro
Finally getting some worth while images out of mine where I had good subjects to work with. After using it constantly for a few hours I decided it wasn't really too big. Have to admit there where times I was wishing it was the missing 200mm f/2 though.
I haven't missed having the 24/1.4 GM but now that I have experienced this I want to get my hands on one. I am hoping that my copy will ship from B&H this week. Maybe wishful thinking but haven't been too concerned about it until experiencing the 135.
I'm still on the fence about the GM135. Taking the portrait aspect out of the equation, the longest lens I have is the 100 STF. I love it, but it's pretty much useless at night and I do sometimes want just a bit more reach. Although the STF is f/2.8 T/5.6 it's pereceived DOF seems more shallow because of the way it renders (I'm sure many will disagree - but that's a whole different discussion). The longest lens that I can use handheld at night is my GM 85.
