For removing g recalcitrant filters, I keep a dental dam in my kit. I was given one by John Sexton at a workshop and it is the perfect "filter wrench," a piece of rubbery material about 3 inches square, takes up no room and no weight, and the one I have is bright blue so it's harder top lose.
