Congratulations to AGeoJO for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 3 votes - View Previous Winners
The images were captured in January during a 3-day visit to Bosque del Apache together with a few shooting buddies. The cameras used are mirrorless although the main lens for long reach is a DSLR lens but fitted via an adapter. Since it is crossposted, I will not elaborate on the technical shooting aspects but the exif data for each image is there and please do feel free to ask any questions. Your feedback/comments are greatly appreciated.
2, 5 and 7 for me, fantastic shots. I wonder if you had to wait a long time for the composition in #7 to present itself or was it one of those 'moments' that you managed to nail? Solid work.

Thank you very much, Dave! I was following a few flocks of sandhill cranes when they took off from their roosting location, nickname the crane pool. I got each flock in focus and tracked them and when they flew towards the setting moon, I fired away. The moon moved fairly fast and it faded away fast, too. So, I had to do that within a certain window of time. Off the top of my head, maybe there were 8-10 flocks but only 2-3 that flew fairly close and that image is one of them.
Here is another image with the moon at a lower position and it faded away. The color of the moon is basically white now and it is less contrasty. Please note that I used a different lens for that, too.

Top notch shots Joshua. But I wouldn't expect anything less from you.
Love the story! Great capture...always nice to see skill, preparation and technology come together. That second shot is fantastic too, love the composition, a nice union of the landscape in the lower part of the frame balanced by the clouds and the directionality of the cranes moving towards the moon. Those both deserve to be printed large and hung!

I am glad you like the last image and I appreciate your kind words, Dave!
