Each year a local independent theater holds a pledge drive on Oscar night - they have a big oscar party and they broadcast the oscars live on their large screens and all kinds of stuff. I volunteer my time because I love the theater and love being part of the team (and they helped me propose to my wife with my Muppet Proposal film back in 2010)
Usually each year we do quick "photos with an Oscar" for attendees who want to have their photo with a real Oscar. They typically look like this:
Over the last few years I've also wanted to something a little more "elegant". I love how Mark Seliger has been creating Vanity Fair portraits of Oscar winners, so finally this year I got the hotel the event is hosted in to give me a small space for a make-shift studio and I made up little invites and at the event I only gave them to party attendees who dressed up for the event and really really looked fantastic. For an hour I did "Academy Portraits" with a small group of people.
From the sessions:
It was a great thing, for me personally, to be able to make some of these if only to step away from the typical photography and bring something a little more elegant into the event.
And I'm hoping to continue this so that maybe it will get more people to start really stepping up their game as far as outfits for the event
