I just got back from a 2 week trip to Kauai. What an amazing place. I wasn't able to get out more for photography because it was a family trip, but still came back with a few photos that I like. Here are my favourite ones.
Not a criticism, a legit question because I've never been to Hawaii: Did you juice the saturation a little in post, especially in #2 and #4?
The colours in Hawaii are super vibrant, the water really is turquoise and the greens are super saturated already (they get a ton of rain on Kauai). I didn't touch the saturation but I did use the dehaze slider liberally, my photos were quite hazy. Also, I shoot Fuji and the film simulations are already quite saturated.
And here's another one from the Awa'awapuhi trail. My wife got in the shot. I wish this photos captured how grandiose this scene actually is. It's just stunning and the photo unfortunately doesn't do it justice.
That set brings back fond memories. Lovely shot of the pier. Landscapes do look a bit saturated, esp the greens and blues. Still, you captured their essence well.

Nice set, the third one really stands out to me with the framing of the coast line and the color contrast as you go down the coast. Makes me wish I was back in Hawaii!

I have been to Kauai and was also going to ask about your post work. Is dehaze the only processing?
Thanks!
No I usually adjust highlights and shadows in Capture One, then bring into Photoshop, dehaze (in camera raw filter), use a the dynamic contrast slider in Color Efex Pro and a few other tweaks here and there depending on the photo.

Three is crazy good! All are beautiful!! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing them with the group! Paradise!
There are some contrast (wider) and sharpening (edge) halos in some of them I would love to see removed. Very easy to fix!
I am curious what kind of monitor you processed these on?
Also, I don't see why these could not identical or nearly identical with only Raw (lossless) adjustments if that was your goal for more lossless quality. Especially in Lightroom/Adobe. I know everyone has their own goals and needs for their image... Of course Capture One has some plusses too. Especially their better fundamental demosaicing algorithm (how the image initially comes in before adjustments) and the quality of the detail it produces. It is a touch better than Adobe.

Thanks Mark, this means a lot coming from you, I love your work!
Do you have any tips on removing the contrast and sharpening issues? I did purchase your Complete workflow tutorial a few months ago, so maybe you can point me to a specific spot in one of those videos? To be honest I haven't had time to watch the whole thing yet and just used Nik Collection for sharpening. Also, what do you mean by Contrast (wider)?
I used to use Lightroom exclusively but these are Fuji files and I've never been fully satisfied with Lightroom which is why I processed these in Capture One. Unfortunately that means no RAW smart objects. I do own X-Transformer though so maybe I can give that a try.
Two weeks there, did you get more memory cards or back up drives?
I think i would take thousands of pics , lol
Number four speaks to me, clouds, contrast, water and vibrant landscape
Thanks! I had 352gb of memory cards and 2 backup hard drives. I usually copy all my files to both hard drives, but I still get nervous about formatting memory cards. So when I got back I ordered 4 more memory cards haha.

Forgot to answer this one, it's Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24"W Monitor, from 2012. It is calibrated but getting a bit old and not super high end, but does the trick. My prints come out looking pretty good I think.
I love #3 as well. I did a helicopter tour on Kauai probably 6-7 years ago. Did you do the "open doors" one? That's what we did...I'm not great with heights but made an exception to avoid window glare.
As for colors...those shots vary so much based on lighting. It rains there so much that it's sometimes tough to get the Napali cost in the sun. You had great luck.
