I searched the forum for similar topics, but it seems they all date back to 2012/2013 when Eye-Fi was still alive.
Now that its dead, but similar products exist like Flashair and EZShare , is there a way to configure the 1DX to upload images automatically to a smartphone ?
My goal is simple, to use it like some have used the 5D3 with Eye-Fi cards in the past:
- Wifi Card in the 1DX (via adapter SD to CF)
- Shoot small JPEG to SD, while RAW goes to CF
- Select photos on camera with "SET" button to upload automatically to paired Smartphone
Can this be done? Any users with similar configurations?
Thanks
Canon WFT-E6A Wireless Transmitter is the best choice if you can find one used cheap.
Google the tethering hacks using a tp-link router but I don't recall the ability to send directly to the smartphone although I'm sure you probably could turn the smartphone into a ftp server and send the files over.

Those are valid but expensive and bulky solutions.
I was looking for a WIFI SD card solution.....cheap and simple (ftp server is too much hassle)
Eyefi was pretty much done a few years ago. Look into the Toshiba Flash Air III PFW016U-1CCW or Transcend 16 GB Wi-Fi SDHC, slide one of these into a compact flash SD adapter.
I still have my eye-fi mobi pro card, but all my cameras now have wi-fi. I was astounded to see the price sellers are asking on Amazon. Keenai software works with it.
Toshiba licensed the technology from eye-fi, so they should be similar.
I have the Eye-fi mobi pro card that worked flawlessly in my 5D Mark III sending to my phone. I recently bought a 1DX Mk II and while the eye fi card in an adapter appears to work, the 1DXII will not replay the files on the LCD and that makes me a bit too nervous to trust it is working in the field. Not to mention I can't see the file I want to transfer before transferring.
The fact they're leaving wifi off of bodies blows my mind. I doubt I'll ever use GPS and can accomplish that easily with a handheld GPS/phone merging to the photos later should I desire to do it. However, I would love to have wifi on my bodies.
WFT-E6a and an iPhone or MiFi running as a hotspot is the easiest solution. That'll let you shoot, select, and transfer images to a phone/tablet/computer/off-site editor. It'll take a few minutes to set up the first time, but once it's set, you'll be up and running in seconds in the future.
