p.1 #1 · Sidewinder of a Slot Canyon: Crack Canyon (Utah's San Rafael)
Hello forum,
I went to Crack Canyon on a drizzly day and came away with some OK photos. The first is the best of the bunch IMO but I'll include a few more because this location is pretty unvisited.

I like all of them, but then I'm a sucker for slot canyons. Where are photos from Little Wild Horse?

Nice catch the color feast and its delicate mixture and harmony
Thanks to both of you. @Stan: with limited time, I opted for Crack Canyon and did not visit Little Wild Horse. The appeal of having the place completely to myself made me choose Crack over LWH. I hope to be back in this area again this spring and have a few more places to visit!

slot canyon in the rain - no bueno...
Hi SunDevilStorm,
Thanks for your concern. I try to be reasonable with the weather and canyons. In this case it had been raining for days, a constant drizzle, and things were slowing down. So, I figured if it wasn't flooded when I showed up, it wasn't going to flood. Just wasn't THAT much rain. And the width of the canyon with plenty of levels that were easy to scamper to higher ground gave me 100% confidence that I was just fine.
The canyon is often 100 ft across or more with plenty of higher ground if needed. The short narrow sections are short. Nothing that goes on for miles and miles. Instead it's like 100 yards and then opens up again.
Common sense, caution without being an alarmist is my approach.
I have been to some places where I look and decide not to go or to turn back at a particular part. I don't just rush into anything without calculating the risks.

It's a really pretty area. I know I just scratched the surface. A week woudl allow much more time to absorb the landscape.
Did you go all the way to the end of the canyon? I was interested in doing a loop hike with Chute Canyon.
I've been to the swell twice- did Bell/Little Wild Horse and Goblin Valley twice, tried to go into Devils canyon but couldn't make one of the dropoffs, I've since questioned if I was in the right spot anyway. I've been to other areas of Utah a dozen times, I thought the swell would be a good area to go to and do some out of the way exploring. I'm waiting for my wife to tell me when I can buy another Jeep.

I did not go to the end. I just went to the "crack" area and maybe hiked another 30 minutes further. Then I returned the way I came.
Good luck with the Jeep/wife conundrum. I suspect that is a tricky situation.
