These birds can indeed be very tricky to photograph. Most I have seen are awful exposures that don't show the real beauty of the bird. These on the other hand are excellent, some of the best I have seen. Not only are the techs spot on, they are also lovely compositions

Dippin' fantastic....nice collection of our little friend.
Next time we meet up I'll show you the scenes I photographed the dipper in up in Whitehorse. They stayed all winter along the unfrozen portion of the Yukon river below the dam. The surroundings are so different than the lush BC rainforcet of your shots it is interesting to see the range of habitat they have adapted to.

A most enjoyable set of images Colin on this classic Dipper. I like the low angle and the the natural environment. Great work!

Wonderful set of one of my favorite birds. They have always been a welcome companion on the many days I've spent paddling whitewater streams all over the West. Someday I would love to see the European and Asian varieties.

Excellent set Colin! You did extremely well with this bland colored guy. All are very nice but 3,8,9 & 10 are extra nice.

Love that water over bird shot...another fact about the bird is unlike most other birds, have a solid skeleton (not hollow) to allow their walking on the bottom of streams.

This is a lovely set to illustrate an interesting and unique bird I can't see on the prairies due to its cordilleran range. This quality speaks to many hours sitting on creek banks quietly watching. Too evenly good to pick a fave... from one Colin to another.... (plus vote)

Great set of photos Colin. Because they like to hang out along streams where it is often in the shade they are hard to shoot. You have done an outstanding job of it. They were one of my target birds on a visit to Vancouver Island back in September 2017. I was so glad when I stumbled across a couple in one of your parks there. They are a pleasure to watch.

These are Artistic and beautiful captures that give no real hint as to the extreme difficulty of obtaining them. What of the wet rocks, dark wooded stream beds and the rain?

Unique and truly remarkable... Excellent work Colin.

Thanks! Yes, they can be challenging.

Which park was that?

Thanks Evan! We certainly are "light challenged" here in the PNW.
