p.3 #1 · Metabones better then MC-11 for canon.

Has anyone found a good tripod mount solution to work with the Sigma MC-11 for lenses that don't already have a tripod mount on them but that are heavy, unwieldy?

I know this product has been mentioned on several threads: https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-lens-adapter-support-bracket-for-sigma-mc-11-2063.html

However it's not clear to me how the smallrig adapter works? Do you just screw it into an arca swiss adapter plate?

The Smallrig is the best MC-11 foot solution I've seen, but with the obvious drawback of being restricted to landscape mode only without tilting the ballhead clamp onto the side (as oppose to most tripod collar solutions that allow the lens to rotate to portrait within the collar.)

Depending on the lens you may be able to find a collar that fits the lens itself. Eg I saw a post on these forums comparing multiple collar options to fit the Sigma 14/1.8 Art.

Could you kindly elaborate on what/how exactly didn't work with Otus 85m + MC-11?

It's possible that I was using the MC-11 improperly (or if there is another mode like the MB, please someone let me know), but the Canon-based Otuses don't let you live-view/EVF DoF with the MC-11. It only stops down during to the selected aperture when the shutter is pressed. With the Metabones, there is the non-green mode/wide aperture mode which lets me directly select the desired aperture, so I can see what I will get. For any Sony ML owners, I would recommend only getting the Nikon F versions of the Otus for this reason alone.

Can the Smallrig foot then be screwed into a generic arca swiss L plate to be able to use it with the MC-11 in either landscape or portrait mode?

I am not sure, I don't own it. I would assume so though - it could be a good solution.
