Love the perfection in shot 2 here Pius! all are great though.
I have a upcoming rental preorder for that new 600III for a coming trip to florida in a couple weeks. Hopefully Canon gets them out by then. Anyways how are you liking the 600III? did you own the 600II? if you already wrote about it on FM don't waste your typing here and tell me where you wrote about it. I've rented the 600II a couple months ago shooting eagles at conowingo dam and loved it, and my next purchase will be the 600III no doubt (I've never owned super prime tele) cannot wait.
Pius, It's as if you were flying right alongside. My pick is #2 as well, mainly because of the lighting and that eye, which really stands out. Wonderful job.

For now Steve with the limited amount of shooting I have done with the 600 III:
(1) I would give the bare 600 III the win over bare 600 II in image quality.
(2) With the 1.4 attach, the jury is still out, on any given day in real world shooting BIF or portraits... I don't see much of a difference.
(3) With the 2x attached I would give the edge to 600 III over the 600 II
(4) I bought the 600 III for none of the above reasons. My main reason was for the weight reduction so I could ditch the tripod and I can tell you with certainty that works for me...
This is just my opinion, other photographers may feel different or have opposing views.

Pius, thanks for typing out your observations, especially on the converters I own the 1.4 and rented the 2x for that trip to conowingo and noticed many of my 2x shots were equal if not better than my 1.4 and thats on the 600II so yeah its encouraging to read you liking the 2x on the new 600III , I too rented the 2x for my trip in a couple weeks. I have the 400III as a backup rental incase the 600III don't come in, so either way I'm 2xing one of those new lenses haha. but yeah on the handholding besides birding I'll be carrying around that lense at the rolex 24hr race so yeah the extra 2 pounds off these lense's is the exact sell I was looking at for sure.
