"Jinja Falls" Uganda, Africa

Yes, those are birds on the left in the trees!

For the last 20 years, I have been going to Uganda to help orphaned children. Last year I went with my awesome new wife to serve the kiddos and then afterward, I finished by taking a huge road trip all around and through the heart of Uganda.

More DETAILS for the inquisitive BELOW the image.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Details for the more inquisitive:

Single shot
Sony A7R2
Canon 24-105@ 67mm
f/11
0.6 shutter
100 ISO

A little different from me for sure. Just saw this today and thought I must process it.

Processing is pretty straightforward, of course making the very most of Photoshop RAW Smart Objects (btw, not the same as standard Photoshop "Smart Objects"). With Photoshop RAW Smart Objects, one can remain in lossless 32-bit RAW, much further down the processing chain (workflow) than ever before. The end result is a new level of potential quality at the pixel level never before available, that can translate into unprecedented print enlargement quality. That gets my full attention!

*BOTH of my Sony A7R2's SHUT DOWN taking this shot (fortunately I had a Canon back up)! The humidity was outrageous. Really warm sunrise and you could almost drink the air! I live in Florida now and, Florida does not even come close to what I experienced this AM. The cameras have never done this again since, in hundreds of shoots.

If you are going to travel all around Uganda (we went all the way around it) you better have an incredible guide! A true expert of locations, people, danger zones and EVERYTHING else! The most incredible guide and person I have ever met is Darius Santos.

Travel With Darius Facebook

If you go, look him up! He speaks about 30 languages and can get you into areas and countries most can not. And Safely! He even has a TV show.

On this trip, we were in Uganda around Rwanda, Kenya, Congo, Sudan and through the entire heart of Uganda. One of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life. Some of the greatest people I have ever met too. Hundreds of stories. We may end up doing something commercial in Uganda but have not decided yet.

All the best to you!

That’s a compelling image. “Jinja” brought to mind the horrific times of Idi Amin.

Thank you Matt.

That might be true but he pushes his cameras to the extreme. He wouldn’t even touch a Sony! Although I still shoot with the Sony I know there are some circumstances in which the cameras will not be able to tolerate.

Happy holidays by the way. To you and your family.

Mark - the way you've presented the water flow is mesmerizing - plus the low angle gives me the feel I'm right on the edge!

Oh -- and the second image is the best I've seen of you. Better than all those photos of you hanging on the edge...…

Mark, A picture is a picture for the most part but yours turn out to be masterpieces in the realm of photography. I am always pleased to see when someone gives of themselves to help others. My wife and I helped to support a Missionary doctor in Africa for many years and we ended up being blessed through it. Thank you for your care of these children.

Thank you. Oh yeah. I've read a lot about this, and know too many personal stories by friends who lived it! Horrible. Then Saudi gave him refuge and he lived out a full life and even taught sometimes at a university there. So very sick!

This awesome book almost gave my post-traumatic stress disorder:

A Distant Grief

Oli otya sebo! Webale nyo!

Yes, I speak a little bit of Luganda. The Ugandans always find it surprising. Very few muzungus (foreigners/whites) make any attempt to do so, which is lame IMO.
