I went ahead and cropped this, full square on the right of the frame, nothing going on on the right edge to look at. Wide open. This one surprises me. I don't think of this lens being very pretty (though it is sharp), but this rendering is
I also made a cursory comparison with the Laowa 100 macro.
It seems to me that Laowa is sharper
It worries me a bit.
I will try to make a detailed comparison and share my impressions with you.
Relax.
Both lenses are mostly sharper than it’s possible to distinguish with your eyes even at 1:1.
There are other differences of course, but any difference in sharpness you can see over most of the frame are likely to be vibration, focus or other issues with the particular shot.
Hi! I made a small comparison between VC and Laowa 100. Conclusions: Vc As a telephoto lens is sensational, as a hopeless macro
I don't know, maybe it's the body fault? maybe VC doesn't work with Sony A7 MK I?
All photos have the same settings and 100% crop. Macro with a tripod.
Hard to compare 2:1 image to a 1:1 image. In the case where both are 1:4 I think the CV shows more detail in etched lines on the face. At infinity... Ack! White balance crisis! If those have the same white balance I would be terrified by one of those lenses. I don't own either lens but would trust CV colors over Loawa
David and I just updated our Voigtlander 110mm F2.5 APO Macro review based on a combined experience of 3 years with the lens. It has been part of my standard 3 lens kit for the last 18 months and I am still very happy with it.
I'm not sure if it's a male thing but having a tool (lens) that is so good you can't even provoke weaknesses when you try makes using it so utterly satisfying. There hasn't been a single picture taken with it which didn't look special. Waiting for my CV50 APO to arrive...
Everything about this CV110 is perfect, except the retarded lens hood design.
See how you feel with the 50/2. I use these two interchangeably in home/walk practice, the 50mm is a dream to use, snaps into focus. Definitely a vision lens in a great lineup, and almost impervious to poor light.
Cosina took a rare wrong turn this year, making a Leica-esque bunch of ribbed units of lenses they already had or had on the board. A 28/1.8 of high quality would have hit much harder.
Also they have forsaken a longer portrait length f2 APO - which could have been a 500g 1:2 redux of their favourite source design (the 100MP) - so a down year so far from them. Six f1.2 lenses 35-50 now. How niche is that..
Phillip would you say the 110mm gives a similar look to the 65mm for landscapes? The 65mm continues to blow me away regardless of aperture, and I'm using it a lot for handheld stitching. Looking for something longer (for stitched images as well as single captures) and am weighing up the 110mm vs the Sigma 135mm. (I realise they are quite different lenses, but the sigma would be handy for AF at times and I consider them both 'heavy' ish lenses).
I absolutely love these Voigtlander lenses. Only have the 15mm at the moment....
But I find it comedically frustrating, but in keeping with photography gear’s ongoing compromises, that the best lenses (for weight & image quality) for my ultra-fast autofocusing cameras (A9 and A7III)...are manual lenses. Yep,that sounds about right.

I get your frustration, but there are exceptions.
