I've checkt the Af last weekend (but only for short distances). It looks like it is on the spot. So maybe the TC doesn't perform better or these softness is created by minimal shaking (at ~850mm focal lenth) or focus is not on the spot at longer shooting distances..
Great morning hangin' at a recently irrigated pasture.
All my previous Ibis in-flights have had a blue sky bg.
Finally, decent bosque bg AND the light wasn't too bad.
2nd shot I was diggin' the tips up on this Cattle Egret.
The zoom continues to amaze...
