It's my favorite 21mm lens at the moment. I've shot with it all (Loxia, Sigma 14-24, Sony 12-24), and while the zooms outperform it at wide apertures in terms of resolution, CV 21/3.5 Color-Skopar is superb in flare resistance, distortion, color rendering and sunstar definition. The M-mount performs the same on Sony and Leica and it's my choice since I have both systems. The Loxia 21/2.8 is also a great choice but it's not as compact.
That is just crazy to see the difference. Did you find the FE to perform as well as the M mount on Sony? I'm thinking about getting this lens and the 35mm1.2 SE for a dedicated manual kit with this new A7c. Really needs a higher Res EVF than the a7iii though. I knew I could never stay away from these CV's for ever.

An underrated lens. But it has great performance in a quality I call 'expansiveness'. Real world colour, which can be pushed very hard if needed. Maybe best of all, fabulous highlight depiction, a soft fade out rather than a sharp clip. An elegant draw, plenty of detail, excellent tone separation in the often drab, edge-of-season mountain landscapes.
I'd buy an 18mm version immediately, and even a 28mm if they go that way rather than faster. It now accounts for a fair percentage of my recent book images. Recommended if these qualities matter to you. Very easy post-processing.

Finally pulled the trigger on this little lens. Arrived today. Mounted to my a7R3 and I’m having some fun with it. I’ve been skeptical about the focal length For some time, but I can see the advantages over a 24.
The thing that I’m convinced of, is that I’d really want to pair this lens with a smaller body. The a7c would fit the bill if they had nailed the ergos a bit better and given us a 42-61mpx sensor.
I’m struck by The possibility of how nice this would feel in hand with a smaller body. I don’t have my 6500 anymore but that would have been a really nice combo too. So a camera body along the lines of that or the a7c would probably be ideal for travel and hikes. Here’s to hoping for a future a7cr.

Definitely a lens for a compact body. I currently use the M-mount version adapted to the A7R IV. It's a very light combo especially compared to carrying the R4 + 24/1.4 GM.

A7r and CV 21/3.5 plus B+W filter and hood is 730 grams. Great for dodgy terrain and/or one hander shots. A7c would be very good too, not that IBIS is necessary, but once you know where to set focus, good to go.
Marc Alhadeff rates it as 'very good', his third category, but it's in fine company - CV 50/1.2 and 40/1.2. That's just sharpness, it has excellent colour and smooth rendering, and special highlights.

I use this & the 40/1.2 (plus FE85) on an A7. The A7c & the A7iii previously are the only bodies that have sparked any interest inside me!

For its size this lens just delivers, for me. I spent about 20 years shooting the majority of my favorite images using the great 43mm on the Mamiya 7. When I finally sold that system, I needed a good wide, but now I wanted *small* for travel but still be able to print on 17x22 paper with perfect sharpness, and most of the time I get it. Here is another of the Portland Japanese garden with the A7iii and CV21/3.5. Highly processed as I was going for a certain look, but the image relies on the high acuity, which is apparent.

Using it on a6500s. Feels perfect, nice focal lenght for APS-C, too.
Hah, what an awesome before/after. Amazing to see both your daughter and car change, I bet haha. Looks like you changed rims...did you go back to the originals or are they un-original but period correct? The 2020 rims look great...IMO better than the 2006s.

Thank you
Ummmmmm..... The 2006 'Before' was RS2000 alloys, 1700 engine, 4 speed 'box, LSD, stripped interior, front spoiler, etc I swapped to the Mexico steel wheels around 2007 - The steel wheels are a little more period correct, the RS were from the later Mk2 Escort. In 2009 I fitted a 2.1 engine, 5 speed 'box and at the end of 2009 I took it off the road due to rust. Fast forward 6 years, a divorce, a few job changes amongst other things and in 2015 it was restored, painted & back road legal! It's not really changed much over the past 5 years but it still isn't really 'finished' as such as I have some jobs I still want to do.......
Happy with it though. I wanted to keep it looking pretty much the same as it's fairly well known & I like how it looks pretty original & discreet from the outside.

Just bought this lens and look forward to using it - my first Voigtlander. I've read that some filters are a bit 'wide' in fit for the CV lenses even if the measurement appears accurate (52mm in this case). Is that true, or will any 52mm filter work? Anyone use a particular filter/brand with this lens that they like and works (fits)?
Also it was quite difficult to get the lens on the mount compared to all of the other (non-CV) lenses I have used. It was very tight. Is this typical? I didn't even hear it click into place, but couldn't rotate it any further. But the contacts seem to work just fine.

I’ve got a B+W filter on that fits fine. Mounting for me is a bit tight, but mostly there’s really no place on the lens to get a grip that doesn’t move, so it’s a bit challenging to mount and unmount. But only a bit.

I have a 52>58mm step ring permanently on the lens so it shares the filters of the 40mm
