Took first test shots today. Then the pixel peepshow began. And it was fun :-)
Of course it doesn't have the super resolution of my CY 35-70 3.4 or my Bokina. But that's to be expected from an ultrawide. It's simply nicely sharp, I can't see a "midfield dip", the corners are really OK, nothing to complain about.
What really strikes me with this lens is how uncomplicated it is in use.
Simply set aperture to something between 5.6 and 8, focus on something not too near, and you get consistently sharp photos from edge to edge, from front to infinity. So easy! The Sony 16-35 f4 (I sold it to get the CV 21) and also the Olympus G-Zuiko 21mm f3.5 I shortly had were much more "picky", somehow I managed to get many unsharp sides and corners (not to mention the AWFUL manual focusing of the Sony zoom).
This convenience and "friendliness" of the lens, paired with its small- and lightness, makes it a no brainer as a companion for my trips....Show more →
Now just give me a 28 just like it and make my day

Oh man I loved the Ultron 28mm F2 with closeup adapter. IQ was "good enough" for me and I liked the look it gave. But I never liked the Leica-style focus tab and all the hassle with the helicoid adapter (it could only focus to 0.7m without it). So I sold it. But I miss the lens. I really wish Voigtländer updated that lens for Sony with a close MFD (similar that you could get with the VM version and helicoid adapter).
Damned Tamron. Now I'm debating with myself if I should wait for the 17-28mm f/2.8 zoom or just buy this CV21 as I originally planned to do.

I used to have the 28/1.9 Ultron (LTM) and it was my favorite lens on NEX-6 for a long time, but it wasn't that great towards the edges / corners on my A7r and later I sold it.
I think Cosina will announce some new lens developments just prior to CP+ (it starts 2/28) like they did last year, and I hope they include a new 28mm for e-mount in the next group

If you try it, please tell me about. I'm planning to use a 21 prime as a 21-24 mini-zoom. My doubt is whether the CV would be sharp enough for that, or would I need the Loxia 21. I don't count on the Tokina 20 because is too big and not so good for Flare/glare as the other two. What's your opinion?

On an A/R III I think of primes as little zooms (1x to 1.15x, even a little more). If I were you, having as you have a good 35 mm, I would use the Sony 24 as a 24-28, or buy a Loxia 25 to have 25-30.

How would you rate it for 24Mp body (I've got the A7III or in your case A9)? I don't care about corner sharpness wide open that much and I've read that it's pretty sharp in the center. But how is it when stopped down to f/8 or so? I'm thinking of using it for landscapes sometimes. Could be a nice pair for my 40mm Nokton. The M-mount Ultron was decent enough for my use - and if the LTM is anywhere near as good, I could pick it up. (I will also have better lenses for critical work.)
I'm mainly interested of getting the LTM version just because of it's focus ring - I really hated the focus tab on M mount version. I just bought the cheap A6000 which I'd also love to pair it with once a while. I'm kinda crossing my fingers for a native 28mm Ultron announced soon, but if there's no hint of such a lens at the CP+ within couple weeks, I'm tempted to just order the 29/1.9 LTM version as they're not that expensive. And I like how it looks and handles.

Order the E-mount version online and try it. You will most probably keep it.
I have the Contax-Zeiss 35-70 f3.4 which is outstandingly sharp. So I'm spoiled and need something really good when I put something wider on the camera. As I wrote already, sharpness and resolution are not on the level of above lens, and you have to stop down for good corners, but it's plenty good enough for a pixel peeper like me.

I don't think it (Ultron 28/1.9 LTM) is great for corner-to-corner sharpness even stopped down to f8 on Sony FE cameras as there is quite much field curvature, so I think it will not be a very good option for landscapes. It's possible to get somewhat passable corners at f8 but not great, so I think it could work for certain types of shooting but not ideal for landscape at all. I have some alternative M/LTM glass that works much better corner-to-corner on my Sony cameras so I kept those and sold the Ultron. I keep Avenon 28/3.5 LTM (great at f8) and Minolta M-Rokkor 28/2.8, both are better on Sony for corner-to-corner though they are not as fast. They are quite a bit smaller than the Ultron though.
I found some of my old Ultron 28/1.9 shots in G+ and linked below. They show quite much corner softness and they were shot stopped down for the most part. The A7r album also contains shots with 55/1.8 so best to check exif though they can probably be recognized otherwise too.
CP+ already starts next Thursday (28th) so anything they want to show there will be probably announced on 27th at the latest. So should not need to wait for very long to see if there are any signs of a new 28mm.
