OK. Doesn't appear to be spread across other retailers or even Henry's today...so I would think Henry's had too many demos and wanted to clean out their shelves. In either case...no it's not a wholesale clear out of those two lenses in anticipation of new lenses to take their place.

Dunno guys but I’ve seen recent moves to clear out stocks of FE 35/2.8 and 55mm. From Massdrop sale to local brick and mortar store chains having the 35mm on sale including their demo samples. Something is coming, either the new firmware fixes the Batis 40mm for good, or there is something else coming around (or inbetween) these FLs.
Well I'm banking on the firmware since they said April. Mine comes tomorrow so I have 30 days for them to fix it or it goes back
So far the update seems to be good. I'm stuck in my office and no one is around, but pointing it at pictures the Eye AF seems to be working well. The update went smoothly if you follow the instructions. I have only had the lens since last night. I posted an image on the other thread with some xmas lights. I'll repost here. Last night before the update you could clearly see the aperture blades now it is much better. Not perfect but usable.
Not the most advanced test, but should give you some impression (and lots of other Batis 2/40 stuff too).
Thanks for doing this test. I have been scouring the online world looking for some astro applications for this lens, particularly for doing pano stitches of the milky way. The performance doesn't seem very strong, needing to get almost all the way to F4 to eliminate coma. Bummer.
Try the Sigma Art 40mm 1.4, seems to be favorite amongst many Japanese astro photogs.

Any more experiences with the latest firmware? What about AF-C focus issues. I supposed it has been improved but not fully fixed. Am I right?
I am mainly a portrait photographer and haven't had any eye-af issues since the update. But I also bought it after the firmware came out so I don't know how it was before that. Haven't gotten focusing issues with that but have had issues finding focus if you are trying to catch AF at the outer 20% of image. So if I am trying to take a photo of a person at full length or even half length sometimes it will have a hard time finding focus on the person's eye/face. This happens more often in low light situations like when I am in a studio using strobes with low ambient light. I find it easier if it is bright outdoors. I don't know if this is normal behavior or not. I have no issues with focusing at all with a Sony 85/1.8 for instance.
Same here with my A7R2, but I also got it post the firmware update.

I use the Batis 40 with A7rII and no issues with eye autofocus, i.e. it works fine. Not aware of AF-C issues referenced but mine works fine.
Thanks for your feedback so far! It surprises me a bit, but one can only hope that they were able to fix this es af issues. In a German Internet Forum they still dispute this.
