I did this shoot at a lake but the sky was boring so I knew I'd want to composite in a background so this is what I came up with. It was part of a senior portrait/dance session.
Thanks, Doug! It's funny, but there was a guy who ran one of those tourist boats. He was off to the side where we were shooting. He ignored us for awhile, then finally started telling me where she should be for the shot, and where I should be shooting from. I politely thanked him, and ignored him, and so he wouldn't stop. He told me he was a photography major in college, and then he said his daughter was a ballerina. I finally couldn't take it and walked away with Sofia, shaking my head.

Take a print back and show it to him. That should shut him up!

The sunset/lake shot would stand alone as a phenomenal image without the dancer...she just puts the icing on the cake. It’s very convincing as a composite for me with the lighting on the back of her being minimal and then more realistic (I’m still a beginner, getting more of an eye for picking out that stuff).
I also like the lines of her legs following the railing/posts, both vertically and horizontally.
