After Dustin's "Where did everyone go?" post, I thought I would post something since I haven't posted in a long time. I recently made my first ever trip to GNP. I was with family so I couldn't always go at times I wanted to go. Add that to the fact that a lot of days were cloudless and blue. I was determined to not let that stop me and I worked hard to deal with the contrasty conditions. On this image, I was shooting at f11 and was not aware that I was getting a sunstar. Had I known, I would have stopped down to f16 or 22 to get a better defined star. And done more work to deal with the glare.
Anyways, all those excuses aside, I submit this image for your consideration and suggestions. I appreciate all suggestions for improvement and whatnot.
Very nice, Jim. I'm glad you got to Red Rock Falls, one of my favorite hikes, especially passing Fishercap Lake. That is usually a great place for wildlife.
The lighting here is really great, and the colors are perfect! I wish I shot more waterfalls in the sun when I was in Oregon, as it works well in some cases, such as this!

For me it was a sort of desperation move. I knew the lighting would be harsh, but I wanted a good image of this waterfall. I focus stacked the crap out if it, under and over exposed it, finger dodged it, tried everything I could to get usable parts to make a good image. I mostly succeeded. In retrospect, I could of done a couple of other things, but overall I got most of it. Thanks!

Thanks Stan. Yeah, we saw a moose cow and fawn? in RR Lake, right by the falls and on the way back a big moose bull right on the trail. I'll probably post the bull shot up over in the animal forum. So it was a fun hike.
I like the composition and the low angle of the sun which makes the backlit trees look pretty. The red in the bottom red part of the image is a bit too much for me but not a big deal. Great image.
