Thanks, so much to everyone that took a look, commented and voted! Appreciate all the kind words. It was a great couple of days - gonna give it another go this next weekend.... 😁
Really nice series, the first one is the best for me, the storm over the reef behind the butte makes it special and really focuses the viewer on the right part of the image. The vantage point must have been an interesting compromise to contemplate on the spot - nice erosion grooves but shooting uphill is always a tough comp.
Unfortunately the one and only time I have shot "Da Butte" was this past Memorial Day, on the tail end of one of the wettest springs in the last decade+. The ground was soft and with every step you sank 2+ inches into dust that had turned to soft mud. The Bentonite Hills in the park reminded me of those "redneck mudfests" that you see on YouTube - an FJ Cruiser had attempted to go up and had sank 3/4 up the wheels into mud. Could not get anywhere near that close for a good view without a muddy 1 hr slog, and the light was not that great so I had to "settle" for the Blues. I can only wish all my "settling" was for something as impressive.
